Miss Hazelwood 2012 Has Been Crowned

We've got a new Miss Hazelwood! Want to know who won? Keep reading--and join us in congratulating the winner.

, ages 15 to 19, competed for the chance to hold the Miss Hazelwood title Saturday at the Hazelwood Harvestfest.

Each contestant is a Hazelwood resident, a requirement for Miss Hazelwood, and each was asked to answer a couple of questions during the coronation ceremony at Howdershell Park.

Candidates included Kaitlynn Frost, age 17, HWHS junior sponsored by Amy Meyerott Photography; Jennifer Schultz, age 17, HWHS senior sponsored by McClain Chiropractic; Kirsten Henderson, age 16, HWHS junior sponsored by Landolt Properties, Inc.; Samantha Schreck, age 17, HWHS senior sponsored by Max’s Meats & Deli; Samantha Garnier, age 16, Duchesne High School junior sponsored by Prudential Select Properties; and Danielle Randall, age 16, HWHS senior sponsored by Deaver’s Restaurant & Tamz Photography.

Judges included Bill Young, Carol Rogers, and Pat Chamineak. While they deliberated to make their final choice, Mayor Matthew Robinson introduced several members of the Hazelwood City Council to the audience, and , Miss Hazelwood 2011, offered some anecdotes from her experiences in the role.

After Rieke offered a bit of advice for the incoming queen, the moment had finally arrived: the judges had chosen their winners.

First runner-up was the lovely Danielle Randall.

And the winner is...

Kirsten Henderson, who was crowned Miss Hazelwood 2012. Henderson was also awarded a $500 scholarship to go toward books in college, as well as several other prizes.

Henderson is very involved in her school and community.  At school, she is a member of the Student Council and actively participates in VIPs, National Honors Society, and Pep Club. 

Henderson has been playing an instrument in the symphonic orchestra since her freshman year and volunteers her time for Special Olympics and other community service activities. 

During the summer, she works as a lifeguard at Hazelwood’s White Birch Bay Aquatic Center.  Her favorite free time activities include playing soccer and riding her bike with friends.
