Police Chief Carl Wolf Hangs Up His Badge for Good

After serving as the Hazelwood police chief for 26 years, Wolf retired on July 1.

Long-time Hazelwood Police Chief Carl Wolf officially retired on July 1. The 42-year law enforcement veteran originally announced his intentions to retire on May 15 when he sent out a statement indicating that he was ready to start a new chapter in life. “I want to thank the City of Hazelwood and its wonderful residents for giving me an opportunity to be their Chief of Police," Wolf said in the statement. "I’ve enjoyed every minute of the 26 years I’ve been with the city, but I feel it’s now time for me to move on in a different direction.” He added that he was grateful for the privilege of working with past and present department employees who helped him “build an outstanding law-enforcement organization that is second to none.” Chief …

Saluting a Veteran, The Making of a Leader

Patch continues its Independence Day series on a life-altering mission in Vietnam. Part two of this three part series shows an area veteran, Staff Sgt. James Donnelly's leadership abilities shine through, even as he sees close friends fall around.

Staff Sgt. Jim Donnelly wrote often to his fiancée Sue Markus; his parents, Mary and James Donnelly Sr.; his brother Jerry, and his younger sisters, Mary and Marsha, then ages 6 and 10. One letter to his dad, who had served in World War II, tells much about his Vietnam experiences. June 11, 1969 Dear Dad: Once again I’ll have to cry on your shoulder. I lost my best buddy (Sgt.
