The Valley of Flowers returns for its 51st year this weekend.
The annual Valley of Flowers Festival makes its mark on Florissant this weekend and there looks to be a great lineup of events and entertainment ahead. We’re guiding your way through the festival as well as keeping you up to date on the daily happenings. Parking: Festival organizers ask attendees to not park on shopping center lots. There will be parking on St. Charles Street and St. Ferdinand Park. Changes to the Festival: There will not be a Family Knight held this year on Thursday, so the festival officially opens Friday. Also, those under the age of 18 must have an adult accompany them on the Knights of Columbus grounds at all times. As the Valley of Flowers festival gears up for another year of family fun and celebration, residents and visitors will notice a number of changes for this year’s festival. According to a press release, the festival will go to a three-day format of Friday, Saturday and Sunday. In years past, the festival started on Thursday with “Family Knight” at the Knights of Columbus grounds. Remember you can get instant news updates. Several parade units and contest winners were announced Sunday. A number of awards were handed out for everything from cutest baby to best parade float.
While several turned out for the crowning of the 2012 Valley of Flowers Queen Sunday, others turned out to hear the award winners for several other contests. The City of Hazelwood came in second place for "Best Organization." In the "Best Theme Unit – James J. Eagan Award" category, Valley Industries brought the third place title back to Hazelwood. A number of awards were handed out during the ceremony, and here's a rundown of winners, including second and third place recipients. I agree with Mark. I have a 22, 20 and 8 year old. When my girls were little it was a blast! We'd head up right before lunch on Saturday. We'd eat, then go ride rides and play games. Gma and gpa would meet us up there, then hours later my husband would come up and head to the beer garden. The kids would get to come in and hang out and play with what they won.
