USPS Postage Rates, Services and Stamps Increase

An a new stamp introduced this week will allow customers to mail letters anywhere in the world for one set price of $1.10.

The cost of sending most letters and packages increased slightly on Jan. 27, when the U.S. Postal Service adjusted its rates to help cover the costs of delivering the mail.  Forever Stamps, the ones that remain good despite future postal rate increases, increased to 46 cents. Holiday Package Shipping Deadlines for Christmas 2012

Want those cards and packages to arrive in time for Christmas? Find out the drop-dead dates from the U.S. Postal Service, FedEx and UPS from Hazelwood.

If you want Santa Claus to arrive on time with holiday packages to military, international or U.S. destinations, the U.S. Postal Service has announced the dates those packages must be in the mail. So has FedEx and UPS. Here's what you need to know to get your packages to their destinations on time. Priority Mail: Hazelwood's Post Offices to Survive as USPS Reviews Branches for Closure

The US Postal Service announced today it will consider closing thousands of branches.

In a move designed to streamline operations and save money, the United States Postal Service (USPS) will review more than 3,600 branches nationwide to decide which ones to close. The post office, along with the post office carrier annex and bulk mail center located on Phantom Drive in Hazelwood are not on the list of properties under review that the USPS released today. St. Louis branches under review: A spokeswoman for the USPS in St. Louis told Patch the study covers retail (branches) only, and stressed that delivery is not under review. “Customers have shown us that they no longer need a brick-and-mortar post office,” Valerie Hughes, USPS spokeswoman, said. Letter Carriers in Hazelwood and Metro St. Louis to Collect Food Saturday in Nationwide Drive

People throughout St. Louis County, including residents of the City of Hazelwood, will have the opportunity to donate nonperishable food items as part of the annual event.

Hazelwood residents will have the opportunity Saturday to donate food to people in need as part of the Stamp Out Hunger National Food Drive. The event is sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC). "Local food banks are at their crisis level," said Keith Brown, business manager for Acosta sales and marketing company and a representative of Campbell's, which sponsors the food drive. He said the economic downturn has left St. Louis area food banks in need. The comments came during a news conference at Schnucks in Richmond Heights. Letter carriers will collect donations of unopened, nonperishable food items left next to mailboxes. Goods can include peanut butter, soups and canned tuna. The St. Louis Area Foodbank received…

Notes from the week of Dec. 20-25.

The week began with a few crimes that occurred throughout the season. Holiday coverage was everywhere on the site including the coverage of local Christmas babies and things people do on Christmas. We told you what area businesses would be open on Christmas, and showed you how to wrap gifts if you don't enjoy using wrapping paper. There was also coverage of a Maryland Heights man that won the lottery at a Missouri Bottom Road gas station, and we showed you some area firefighters doing a few good deeds for children in need. Santa Claus Wears a Postal Uniform

Hazelwood postal workers deliver smiles, and your holiday cards and packages, on time.

Your mail carrier might not look like Santa Claus, but chances are he or she is an elf in disguise during the holidays. In fact, by the end of this holiday season, the United States Postal Service (USPS) mail carriers will have delivered nearly 16 billion cards, letters and packages to Americans nationwide. If you haven't mailed those last minute packages and holiday cards, you are one of many people along with Hazelwood resident Jeremiah Giles, that are leaning on the United States Post office to deliver a Christmas miracle.
