Hazelwood Letter Carriers Collect Food Saturday to Stamp Out Hunger

Place cans of unopened, non-perishable items next to your mailbox before the letter carrier delivers the mail Saturday. They will collect the food donations as they deliver mail along their routes. Locally, donations go to the St. Louis Area Foodbank.

Hazelwood residents will have the opportunity Saturday, May 11, to donate food to people in need as part of the Stamp Out Hunger National Food Drive. The event is sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC). Letter carriers will collect donations of unopened, nonperishable food items left next to mailboxes. Goods can include food items like peanut butter, soups and canned tuna. The St. Louis Area Foodbank received almost 220,000 pounds of food as part of the event. Overall, letter carriers in the bi-state region collected more than 724,647 pounds of food in one day. That equates to more than 591,500 meals. In 2010 it received more than 300,000 pounds of food. USPS Postage Rates, Services and Stamps Increase

An a new stamp introduced this week will allow customers to mail letters anywhere in the world for one set price of $1.10.

The cost of sending most letters and packages increased slightly on Jan. 27, when the U.S. Postal Service adjusted its rates to help cover the costs of delivering the mail.  Forever Stamps, the ones that remain good despite future postal rate increases, increased to 46 cents. What Do You Think of the Post Office? How Would You Fix It?

Is there a solution to the declining revenues of the U.S. Postal Service. Is it an agency that still is viable?

People tend to have strong opinions of the post office, or more properly, the United States Postal Service.  From crabby clerks in the post offices themselves, to the love expressed for the individual letter carrier, there are strong feelings for the agency called on to carry the nation's mail. There has been discussion of dropping one day of mail delivery as the Postal Service struggles to cope with declining revenue from the services it provides. Email has all but replaced regular letter writing, leading fewer people to buy postage stamps, which always seem to inch up in price. At least once a week, my mail goes to the wrong address, and "sometimes" I get it sometimes I don't. I say lets start running the Post Office and the goverment as a business. If they don't make a profit. FIRE some people,,CUT cost, Or CLOSE it down. With the internet, smartphones, tablets. I really don't see a need for the Post Office. Letter Carriers in Hazelwood and Metro St. Louis to Collect Food Saturday in Nationwide Drive

People throughout St. Louis County, including residents of the City of Hazelwood, will have the opportunity to donate nonperishable food items as part of the annual event.

Hazelwood residents will have the opportunity Saturday to donate food to people in need as part of the Stamp Out Hunger National Food Drive. The event is sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC). "Local food banks are at their crisis level," said Keith Brown, business manager for Acosta sales and marketing company and a representative of Campbell's, which sponsors the food drive. He said the economic downturn has left St. Louis area food banks in need. The comments came during a news conference at Schnucks in Richmond Heights.
