A man snuck into a neighbor’s home on Hazelcrest Drive Dec. 10 and then stole an SUV belonging to the neighbor, Hazelwood Police said. Shawon Jones, 18, of the 7500 block of Hazelcrest Drive in Hazelwood, was charged Wednesday with first-degree burglary and stealing a vehicle. Hazelwood Police said Jones entered a neighbor’s home, also in the 7500 block of Hazelcrest and took the car keys while the owner was in the house. He then stole the neighbor’s 2003 Dodge Durango SUV, polic said. Jones was being held in St. Louis County jail on Friday. Bail was set at $60,000, cash only. Police believe a vehicle found on fire was set purposely.
The Hazelwood Police Department responded to a call of a fire at Musick Park's sprayground area Friday night to find a dumped vehicle set on fire. According to Sgt. Andy Eagan, it appears that a vehicle was set on fire by unknown persons and is being investigated as a possible arson. Eagan said the vehicle is a leased vehicle and may have been stolen before set on fire. There were no injuries.
