Hazelwood West Freshmen/JV Wrestlers Heavy In Numbers

With a good crop of freshman recruits from football and a room to call their own, Hazelwood West's young wrestling program's future looks bright.

Hazelwood West head wrestling coach Mark Fowler is happy with his recruiting efforts this year. There were 35 on his young team last year. This year there's 75. Since wrestling is a winter sport, Fowler looks for prospects among the fall sports. Last year he said he recruited the football players really hard  and came up with two wrestlers. He did the same this year and harvested a good crop of freshman wrestlers. "We're going to be young but talented," Fowler said of this year's team. He said that's where they were last year but the talent didn't come through. He feels better about this year's Class 4 District 2 Hazelwood West High School wrestling team.
