Help 500 Area Families with St. Louis Crisis Nursery's Holiday Hearts Program

As part of the program children in need create a wish list and people can sponsor children for Christmas.

St. Louis Crisis Nursery has been in the Greater St. Louis Area 26 years. The organization, is an independent, not-for-profit agency funded by donations and committed to preventing child abuse and neglect by providing short-term, emergency shelter for children, birth through age 12, whose families are faced with emergencies or who are in crisis. Is looking for community members to help out a child this year via it's Holiday Hearts program. As of Dec. 6, only 35 families out of 500 still need to be adopted for the holidays, according to the Crisis Nursery twitter feed. Help Me Raise Money for the St. Louis Crisis Nursery

Affton-Shrewsbury Patch editor Lindsay Toler will be working as a "celebrity waiter" at Canyon Cafe for the annual fundraiser.

When I volunteer at the St. Louis Crisis Nursery, I'm always surprised by how much the children seem to need me. Here I am, a total stranger, but they still push past each other for the chance to be held, rocked, sung to, cuddled until they fall asleep. Volunteering for the Nursery is easy, in a way. It's like babysitting, but the social workers do the actual hard work (like disciplining, making dinner, etc.) All I have to do is play, hug and smile at little ones who seem desperate for positive attention. Gov. Nixon Appoints Hazelwood Woman to State Board

Hazelwood resident Kelly Floyd will serve on the Missouri State Foster Care and Adoption Board.

Not everyone can say a state governor appointed them to a board or commission, but Hazelwood resident Kelly Floyd surely can. Gov. Jay Nixon announced appointments to eight boards and commissions last week. Floyd was appointed to the Missouri State Foster Care and Adoption Board. Also appointed to the board are: Dean Aye, Beverly Dawn Caruso, Suzette Forbis, Melinda Nicholson, Eric Pilson, Janet E. Richardson, and Derek E. Williams. The board is establishes procedures to review Children’s Division policies. It also provide written opinions and recommendations to change the division; provides draft policy suggestions for improvements in foster care or adoption practices; and provides content for in-service training the Children’s Division …
