There is free food, discounted entertainment and services to give thanks to vets. Now the Small Business Administration has another way to help a those who served in the United States Armed Forces.

Monday marks the federal observance of Veterans Day 2012. The purpose of the day is to show gratitude to those that have served in the armed forces. Some thanks shown this weekend have been through freebies: food, service and entertainment. But the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has another way to say thanks, through its small business programs for veterans.  SBA continues to build on its successful programs for America's military veterans, helping tens of thousands of veterans each year with small business financing, comprehensive business training and counseling and access to federal contracts, according to the administration. Patch representatives hit the streets Wednesday to help local businesses claim their listings on Hazelwood Patch. We'll be out and about in the community occaisonally, just to share Patch tools for local businesses.  Before Patch launched in the City of Hazelwood in November of 2010, a team of contributors ventured to local businesses to collect information for our directory. The result: Patch Places. Patch Places is the spot to find descriptions, hours, accepted payment methods and more for spots around town. Local Businesses Bringing in the Customers

Businesses offer a more personal holiday shopping experience to get customers through their doors.

As we near the end of the holiday season, local shoppers may be in a shopping coma and seeing red in their checkbooks, while Hazelwood small businesses say they aren't doing too bad this holiday season.  Strini's Jewelers, a family-owned store located at Elm Grove Plaza on Lindbergh, takes a more traditional approach when it comes to bringing in business. According to owner Ray Strini, he avoids fads in advertising, choosing instead to use his own mailing list for direct mail advertising. Plus, Strini said, his neighborhood jewelry store offers a more personal shopping experience which keeps customers coming back.
