HSD to Discuss School Safety, Advanced Placement and 2013 Summer School at Board of Education Meeting

The board of education, along with the public, will also hear mid-year accountability reports from Arrowpoint, Garrett, Lusher, Walker and North Middle principals.

The Hazelwood School District (HSD) Board of Education will convene Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., to discuss district business. In the wake of the December Sandy Hook Shooting, and a bullet being found at West Middle School, HSD will have school safety center at the board meeting to reassure parents the district is taking all measure to ensure student safety. HSD Discusses Assessment Literacy, STEM Program at Tuesday's Board of Education Meeting

At this final meeting before Thanksgiving, the Hazelwood School District Board of Education will also award a bid for shingle roof replacement at an HSD facility.

The Hazelwood School District (HSD) Board of Education will convene Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., to discuss district business. The bigger matter of business Tuesday will be several district staff reports on a plethora of subjects including the district's STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) program; the Assessment Literacy Strategy, which involves how students comprehend the way teachers assess (grade) them on classwork and project; and an update on parent involvement in the classroom. At it's last meeting, the HSD Board of Education requested Dwight Lindhorst, assistant superintendent for finance and facilities, present a budget update on $9 million surplus of funds that were discovered in August. Brazilian Educators Travel to Examine HSD's STEM Program

Hazelwood School District welcomed visitors from Brazil involved in researching STEM programs for a new school system. They experienced Project Lead The Way engineering and biomedical classes and FIRST Robotics.

Who says education isn't worth traveling? It certainly was for a large group of Brazilian educators that traveled to North St. Louis County to get a look at operations in the Hazelwood School District (HSD). HSD welcomed a delegation from Brazil involved in researching science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs for a new school system. The delegation will develop a STEM curriculum for 400 schools in its home country. In HSD, it took a tour of Project Lead The Way engineering and biomedical classes including: Aerospace Engineering, Principles of Biomedical Sciences, Medical Intervention, Digital Electronics and Human Body Systems.
