At this final meeting before Thanksgiving, the Hazelwood School District Board of Education will also award a bid for shingle roof replacement at an HSD facility.

The bigger matter of business Tuesday will be several district staff reports on a plethora of subjects including the district's STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) program; the Assessment Literacy Strategy, which involves how students comprehend the way teachers assess (grade) them on classwork and project; and an update on parent involvement in the classroom. At it's last meeting, the HSD Board of Education requested Dwight Lindhorst, assistant superintendent for finance and facilities, present a budget update on $9 million surplus of funds that were discovered in August. Hazelwood School District welcomed visitors from Brazil involved in researching STEM programs for a new school system. They experienced Project Lead The Way engineering and biomedical classes and FIRST Robotics.
Who says education isn't worth traveling? It certainly was for a large group of Brazilian educators that traveled to North St. Louis County to get a look at operations in the Hazelwood School District (HSD). HSD welcomed a delegation from Brazil involved in researching science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs for a new school system. The delegation will develop a STEM curriculum for 400 schools in its home country. In HSD, it took a tour of Project Lead The Way engineering and biomedical classes including: Aerospace Engineering, Principles of Biomedical Sciences, Medical Intervention, Digital Electronics and Human Body Systems.
