Kyle McClellan to Pitch Against the Brewers Tuesday

McClellan may be ready to audition for the Ranger's fifth spot. Shoulder soreness has delayed him.

It seems Kyle McClellan may finally get a chance to prove his talent as the Texas Rangers have plans to have the non-roster right-hander pitch in a game Tuesday. According to a Dallas Morning News blog, the Rangers plan on having McClellan pitch Tuesday against Milwaukee Brewers. Washington said there is time for McClellan to make enough of an impression to make the major league club. McClellan can opt out of his contract March 22. Kyle McClellan has waited all spring while he recovered from a sore shoulder as other candidates for the fifth starter slot continually took to the mound in an effort to stake their claim to the job. Kyle McClellan's Shoulder Causing Problems in Texas

The Texas Rangers will give the North County native additional rest before he tries to throw in the bullpen again. McClellan had to end Sunday’s bullpen session early.

North County native and Hazelwood West Alum Kyle McClellan signed on with the Texas Rangers' minor league team in January, and it seemed his pitching health was on the rise. Early in February the non-roster right-hander was announced as a candidate for two spots on the Texas Rangers’ staff: fifth stater and long reliever. But it seems his shoulder and its injuries are still haunting him. Ron Matejko of ESPN Dallas reports that McClellan had to cut short Sunday’s bullpen session, but the right-hander seems optimistic that it’s a minor setback. “You know pain and you know if it’s something structural, but this is just one of the muscles,” McClellan told Matejko. “I can put my finger right on it and feel it.” (Get instant news updates.
