Trendz Salon in Hazelwood is hosting the event on Monday, Aug. 13 to benefit Florissant Officer Mike Vernon, who was shot and paralyzed on the job.
Lisa Thompson, owner of Trendz Salon in Hazelwood, has a good reason for being interested in the Florissant Police Department. Her husband, Matt, is one of its officers. That’s part of the reason the Thompsons have spearheaded a special fundraiser for Florissant Police Officer Mike Vernon, who was shot in the line of duty. As a result of his injuries, the Iraq veteran is paralyzed and not able to work. “He is a coworker of my husband Matt's,” Thompson said, when Patch asked why she decided to hold the fundraiser. “He also served 2 tours in Iraq, and it just really hits home for me with my husband being a fellow police officer.” Thompson noted that Vernon was a Florissant officer for five years before his injury.
