Plus, Hazelwood West has strong representation on the all-conference baseball team, including the Fosdick cousins.
The Suburban North 2012 all-conference baseball team has been announced and Hazelwood West High School is standout in the number of players participating. On May 16, the Wildcats won the MSHSAA Class 4 District 5 championship. Hazelwood West defeated archrival Hazelwood Central 5-3, while playing on home soil at Hazelwood West High School. At the top of the all-conference list is Oday Al-Yatim. Yatim was announced as players of the year. He will share the title with McCluer North's Peter Jackson. Jared Fosdick was the only Wildcat to make conference's first team. His cousin, Brendan Fosdick, along with five other Hazelwood West players made second team including: Newcomer of the year: Carter Hanford, Pattonville Coach of the year: Mark …

Coming off an all-conference junior season, senior Oday Al-Yatim has improved his numbers in every way, and leads the Hazelwood West Wildcats in batting average, hits, RBIs, and on-base percentage.
Even after delivering a first-team all-conference season last year as the starting catcher for the Hazelwood West High School varsity baseball team, senior Oday Al-Yatim just wasn't satisfied. Nevermind he hit .342 and had 17 runs batted in, for a team that made it to the district championship game. He was also selected as the designated hitter for the Suburban North Conference all-star team last year. Al-Yatim spent the entire offseason believing he didn't really play his best his junior year, and that he needed to have a big senior season if he really wanted to showcase his talents. "That's just the kind of kid Oday is," said Hazelwood West head coach Matt McClellan. "He's an unbelievable hard-worker. He works on every aspect of his game…

The Wildcats storm back from early deficit to knock off St. Dominic, a team that had won 10 straight games before Friday's tournament matchup in O'Fallon.
O'FALLON -- The early part of Friday's Ft. Zumwalt North Invitational Tournament (FZN Tourney) opening game at Westhoff Park, began as many others had for tourney favorite and No. 3 ranked area small school baseball team, St. Dominic High. The Crusaders turned a walk, a stolen base, and two basehits into a 2-0 lead in the second inning, and were getting dominant pitching from ace starter Jacob Wehde. But then a funny thing happened on the way to another St. Dom easy win. The opponent on the field, the Hazelwood West Wildcats, remembered they are Hazelwood West and they don't give up so easily. And boy did the Wildcats remember in a big way, scoring five runs in the fifth inning, and six more in the seventh, to completely blow away the …

Healthy and on the mound again, senior Brendan Fosdick tosses a complete-game shutout to lead Wildcats past the visiting Stars.
Not even a pesky early-inning rainstorm could put a damper on the first home game of the season for the Hazelwood West baseball team, which took on rival McCluer North, Thursday afternoon at Beckemeier Field. The Wildcats, a new and improved bunch over last year's 14-13 club, withstood the intermittent rains, and with a bit of clutch hitting, some terrific defense, and a sensational pitching performance by senior Brendan Fosdick, easily dispatched the visiting Stars for a 6-0 win. "It was a good win for sure," said West head coach Matt McClellan. "I thought we played a pretty good game all the way around." Especially on the mound, where Fosdick simply mowed down McCluer North, with a brilliant complete-game effort, in which he allowed no…

An eight-run second inning is key, as Eagles take their revenge on over-matched Tigers.
Back on June 2, the Easton St. Louis Tigers put what one parent called “a whoppin'” on the American National Eagles in an early season St. Louis Amateur Baseball Association (SLABA) league game at Brentwood Park. Remembering the Tigers hot hitting from that day, and knowing the Tigers have continued to play well throughout the summer, American National head coach Bill Becher figured he should probably put his best starter on the mound for Tuesday’s rematch. It took place at the Eagles’ home park at the Hazelwood Sports Complex, where thanks to some hot hitting, the American National lineup showed it was more than capable of handling the Tigers themselves. The Eagles secured a 10-0 win, which included 14 totals hits and an eight-run second …

Hazelwood West senior-to-be Oday Al-Yatim has seven hits in his past three games for American National.
ST. LOUIS—After a brutal beginning to their summer baseball schedule that included 13 games in eight days, the American National Eagles of the St. Louis Amateur Baseball Association (SLABA) were hoping that coach Bill Becher would give them the day off on Sunday and Monday. And Becher planned to do just that, but he told the team of 18-and under all-stars from high schools all over North St. Louis County, that if they wanted those two days off, they had to earn them. “I told the guys if they played hard these last two games, then I’d give them both those days off,” Becher said. “We’re all tired from all these games. I need the days off, too. But we still need to play hard. And they definitely did. I’m not unhappy at all.” Nor should he be…

Hazelwood West's Oday Al-Yatim has three hits as American National loses to the SME Lancers, 10-7.
ST. LOUIS—Even before the summer baseball season started, the American National Eagles St. Louis Amateur Baseball Association (SLABA) coach Bill Becher knew this week would be a tough one for his team. With doubleheaders on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and single games on Tuesday and Friday, the undermanned and nearly overworked Eagles played eight games in five days. On Friday, which was day two of the Billiken Blue Invitational, American National looked like a worn-out team, especially in the early going. The Eagles lost, 10-7, at Saint Louis University’s Billiken Field to the SME Lancers, an American Legion team from the Kansas City area. “Yeah, we’re tired,” Becher said. “We should’ve beat that team. But our focus and concentration…
