The Hazelwood Parks and Recreation Division still needs additional public input about some renovations to Musick Park. The City of HazelwoodParks and Recreation Division unveiled Musick Park's newly renovated sprayground in May. In the few short weeks it has been open, the attraction has gained an old title back: one of St. Louis Sprout & About's Best Bets on "Spraygrounds." Since opening in 2008, the Musick Park Sprayground has been a popular hangout for kids and adults seeking cool relief from the summer heat. Some of the enhancements made to this facility include upgrades to all facets of the spray pad including the mechanical equipment, underground pipes, spray heads, fencing, and concrete with bare feet friendly surfacing. Plus, at night, the sprayground will be lit up with multi-colored lights that reflect off the shooting water, creating a rainbow…

An event full of barbeque, music and water marked the opening of Musick Park's renovated sprayground with the Hazelwood Community showing up in support.
The City of Hazelwood Parks and Recreation Division unveiled Musick Park's new sprayground on Saturday. Hazelwood residents showed up to support and try the new equipment. Ward 6 Councilman Warren Taylor cut the ribbon allowing access to the new park sprayground, and off the neighborhood kids went. Music provided a soundtrack to Musick Park as hot dogs roasted on the grill, fresh kettlecorn popped on an open flame and residents enjoyed each others' company. The event was unintentionally being hosted the same day as the longstanding Hazelwood School District PTA Run/Walk, which may be a reason for lower than expected signups.
The St. Stanislaus Stampede 5K Run/Walk was supposed to be part of the City of Hazelwood Big Day. Hazelwood Parks and Recreation had three major outdoor events scheduled for the day included the stampede 5k/10K run, Hazelwood's Fishing Derby and the grand re-opening of Musick Park Sprayground But the 5k run has been canceled. "They didn't have very many sign-ups," said Tim Davidson, Hazelwood's communication coordinator. "The main problem I think is the (Hazelwood School District has a Run event on Saturday -- the same day." Three major parks and recreation events will occur on May 12 including the City of Hazelwood's first 5k run, the St. Stanislaus Stampede.
The City of Hazelwood is gearing up to showcase the Parks and Recreation Division on May 12 with a day packed with excitement. The department will be hosting three major city events for the public and residents to enjoy, which includes unveiling the renovated sprayground at Musick Park. The events include they city's first 5k run, the St. Stanislaus Stampede 5K Run/Walk, and Hazelwood's Fishing Derby. Maybe you can convey my opinions. I won't be attending. I'd say a fence near the spray ground area of the park to kids don't run into the street and some cameras to make people more honest while kids are playing.   more ›
