Update: Fast Food Workers Striking Over Working Conditions, Wages, Around St. Louis

An organized movement of strikes began in St. Louis and is spreading across the region. Employees at McDonald's in North St. Louis County, and Jimmy John's took to the picket lines Wednesday. Employees at 20 fast food locations will strike Thursday.

People peacefully gathered and marched in front of a Ferguson McDonald's Restaurant today. You could hear the group of about 100 chanting during the strike," We started from the bottom and now we're here; $7.35 just ain't fair." There was also, "We want change and we ain't talking about pennies." As well, a whole host of additional songs. But for all the people smiling, the subject at hand was serious. The crowd gathered as part of a movement to unionize fast food restaurants throughout the St. Louis Region. Employees at the Ferguson McDonald's, located at 9131 W. Florissant, stood outside in plain clothes around 3:45 p.m., and protested for respect through better pay and improved working conditions. Shannon Garth-Rhodes, spokesperson with…

I never liked Ruiz so I'm not too upset about the findings. I remember the McDonald's report from a few weeks ago so even though they've cleaned up some, I still will never go back.   more ›

Game It Up: Redbox Kiosks Now Offer Video Game Rentals

Top new releases are available, along with popular family and children’s games at Redboxes throughout Hazelwood, for $2 a night.

Gamers can now rent video games in Hazelwood at all hours of the day and night. A presence missing since Blockbuster in Village Square closed, those Hazelwood residents looking to rent a video game have had to either hit Bridgeton or Florissant for a rental; or resort to purchasing a game outright at GameStop at St. Louis Mills. But all that is changing because Redbox, the stand-alone kiosks at local retailers most known for their dollar-a-night movie rentals, now offers video games. Games cost $2 a day and can be reserved online for easy pick up at the nearest Redbox location. There are three Redbox locations in Hazelwood. All three can be found along North Lindbergh at the McDonald's, Walgreens and 7-Eleven stores. Most Redbox kiosks are…

North Lindbergh McDonald's Gets A Much Needed Makeover

With a more contemporary feel, McDonald's is poised to compete with other sit-down restaurants in the area.

When one thinks about McDonald's,  the words "fancy" and "contemporary" rarely come to mind. However, this fast-food giant is undergoing a major change at many of its popular chains. One location in Hazelwood is a part of the drastic decor change. Located on North Lindbergh in the heart of Hazelwood, this particular McDonald's is now urban, chic, and dare I say it – fancy. With bright yellow and red colors throughout the space, comfortable and plush seating and breathtaking artwork on its walls, this McDonald's feels like less of a fast-food joint, and more like a sit-down restaurant. "It certainly competes with nearby sit-down restaurants like Applebee's and T.G.I. Friday's," Shirley, a manager at the location that declined to provide her…
