No Starting Position for Kyle McClellan, Out Again with Shoulder Injury

McClellan was scratched from a scheduled appearance against Seattle on Sunday, but plans to stick it out as a Ranger.

There have been a series of unfortunate events for non-roster right-hander Kyle McClellan in the past year as he has left the St. Louis Cardinals and joined the Texas Rangers' minor league team. McClellan was scheduled to pitch against Seattle on Sunday but is suffering from a strained latissimus muscle in the right shoulder, according to The Dallas Morning News Rangers blog. McClellan will require four weeks of recovery time before beginning a throwing program. The injury was announced four days after McClellan threw two scoreless innings against the Brewers on Tuesday. McClellan experienced discomfort during a bullpen session on Friday and went for an MRI test, which found no structural damage, according to the blog. McClellan has …

Kyle McClellan to Pitch Against the Brewers Tuesday

McClellan may be ready to audition for the Ranger's fifth spot. Shoulder soreness has delayed him.

It seems Kyle McClellan may finally get a chance to prove his talent as the Texas Rangers have plans to have the non-roster right-hander pitch in a game Tuesday. According to a Dallas Morning News blog, the Rangers plan on having McClellan pitch Tuesday against Milwaukee Brewers. Washington said there is time for McClellan to make enough of an impression to make the major league club. McClellan can opt out of his contract March 22. Kyle McClellan has waited all spring while he recovered from a sore shoulder as other candidates for the fifth starter slot continually took to the mound in an effort to stake their claim to the job. The North County native and Hazelwood West Alum signed on with the Texas Rangers' minor league team in January, …

Kyle McClellan's Shoulder Causing Problems in Texas

The Texas Rangers will give the North County native additional rest before he tries to throw in the bullpen again. McClellan had to end Sunday’s bullpen session early.

North County native and Hazelwood West Alum Kyle McClellan signed on with the Texas Rangers' minor league team in January, and it seemed his pitching health was on the rise. Early in February the non-roster right-hander was announced as a candidate for two spots on the Texas Rangers’ staff: fifth stater and long reliever. But it seems his shoulder and its injuries are still haunting him. Ron Matejko of ESPN Dallas reports that McClellan had to cut short Sunday’s bullpen session, but the right-hander seems optimistic that it’s a minor setback. “You know pain and you know if it’s something structural, but this is just one of the muscles,” McClellan told Matejko. “I can put my finger right on it and feel it.” (Get instant news updates. Stan 'The Man' Musial Dead At Age 92

The St. Louis Cardinal icon and baseball hall of fame outfielder passed away Saturday night.

Stan Musial, a giant in the St. Louis community and the baseball world for more than half a century, died Saturday at his home in Ladue.  "Stan the Man passed peacefully at home at 5:45 pm tonight of natural causes. Life will never be the same without baseball's perfect knight," his grandson, Brian Musial Schwarze said via Twitter Saturday evening. Musial was 92 and had been in poor health in recent years. Musial, who entered baseball's Hall of Fame in 1969, played 22 years for the St. Louis Cardinals, amassing 3,630 hits and 24 All-Star Game appearances in a career full of superlatives. Said the Cardinals in posting word of Musial's death: Musial, father of three daughters and a son, was unpretentious, untroubled, friendly and folksy. The…

Cardinals Part Ways with Kyle McClellan, Release the Hazelwood Alum and Sign Rob Johnson

This ends a decade long relationship that began in 2002, when the Cards selected McClellan, strait out of high school, in the 25th round of the 2002 First-Year Player Draft.

The St. Louis Cardinals have released pitcher Hazelwood West alum and North County native Kyle McClellan, the organization announced Tuesday, as it also signed catcher Rob Johnson to a minor league contract. McClellan, 28, appeared in 16 games for St. Louis in 2012 because of labrum surgery in July. However, McClellan has struggled since the end of 2011 season but did help with getting the Cards to the World Series. McClellan may not be surprised by the release. In July McClellan said he felt as though he may have played his last game as a St. Louis Cardinal. McClellan was arbitration-eligible for the third time this winter. "I know how the process works," he said in July. "I know they're thinking about how to protect themselves. "I also …

Is David Freese an MLB All-Star?

The third baseman sent the St. Louis Cardinals to Game 7 of the World Series with his clutch performance, but he hasn't secured a spot on the National League's All-Star Game roster yet. Fans can still vote him in.

Why doesn’t the World Series MVP have a spot on the All-Star team yet? David Freese rescued the St. Louis Cardinals when they were one strike away from losing the World Series twice, and started this season with 13 home runs. Aside from baseball, he created his own baseball camp, suffered through an obnoxious interview at Six Flags St. Louis and made this 7-year old’s dream come true. Does that sound like an All-Star to you, Hazelwood? Vote here or text N2 to 89269 to cast your ballot for Freese, who is competing against Bryce Harper (Washington Nationals), Michael Bourn (Atlanta Braves) and Aaron Hill (Arizona Diamondbacks). Freese was in the running against favorite Atlanta Braves' Chipper Jones, when Major League Baseball announced …

Can the Cardinals Repeat as World Series Champions?

The St. Louis Cardinals look to begin their title-defense today when they kickoff the regular season against the Miami Marlins.

Today's Major League Baseball's official Opening Day, considered by thousands of St. Louisans as an unofficial holiday. And while the St. Louis Cardinals' home opener is really where it's at, that's not stopping us from getting into the baseball mood!  There's no shortage of story lines for the 2012 Cardinals as they look to defend last season's World Series Championship when the season kicks off today against the Miami Marlins.  Related: Update your Facebook Timeline cover photo with an image that captures your loyalty for the Redbirds. The team is missing perhaps three of its biggest names of the past decade in manager Tony La Russa, pitching coach Dave Duncan—both of whom retired—and, of course, Albert Pujols, who signed with the Los …

In the most recent ESPN magazine, he at least gave STL its props, but said it was a business decision. I don't think he's enough to turn around the Angels.   more ›

Watch the Game in Hazelwood: St. Louis Cardinals vs. Philadelphia Phillies in Game 3

The St. Louis Cardinals take on the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 3 of the National League Division Series this afternoon, will you be watching?

The St. Louis Cardinals take on the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 3 of the National League Division Series this afternoon, with the first pitch at 4:07 p.m. in Busch Stadium. Have you got a plan to watch the game?   St. Louis Post-Dispatch columnist Bernie Miklasz called the Cardinals a team with grit in his latest column about the team: “Philadelphia might be shocked, but not St. Louis. The Cardinals never were supposed to be here. They were done, gone, finished. They trailed Atlanta by 10.5 games in the NL wild card race on Aug. 24, then proceeded to destroy every piece of conventional wisdom.” Meanwhile, Philadelphia Daily News columnist Paul Hagen laments the format of a series in which “a bad bounce here, a bloop hit there can send …
