McClellan was scratched from a scheduled appearance against Seattle on Sunday, but plans to stick it out as a Ranger.
There have been a series of unfortunate events for non-roster right-hander Kyle McClellan in the past year as he has left the St. Louis Cardinals and joined the Texas Rangers' minor league team. McClellan was scheduled to pitch against Seattle on Sunday but is suffering from a strained latissimus muscle in the right shoulder, according to The Dallas Morning News Rangers blog. It seems Kyle McClellan may finally get a chance to prove his talent as the Texas Rangers have plans to have the non-roster right-hander pitch in a game Tuesday. According to a Dallas Morning News blog, the Rangers plan on having McClellan pitch Tuesday against Milwaukee Brewers. Washington said there is time for McClellan to make enough of an impression to make the major league club. McClellan can opt out of his contract March 22. The Texas Rangers have signed right-handed pitcher and Hazelwood West Alum, Kyle McClellan, to a minor-league deal with an invitation to major-league spring training, the team announced Tuesday. McClellan who grew up in North County in Hazelwood and Florissant has spent his career in the Cardinals organization after the team picked him in the 25th round of the 2002 amateur draft strait out of high school. The St. Louis Cardinals have released pitcher Hazelwood West alum and North County native Kyle McClellan, the organization announced Tuesday, as it also signed catcher Rob Johnson to a minor league contract. McClellan, 28, appeared in 16 games for St. Louis in 2012 because of labrum surgery in July. However, McClellan has struggled since the end of 2011 season but did help with getting the Cards to the World Series. McClellan may not be surprised by the release. Thanks in part to the injury and surgery that benched him for the rest of the baseball season, Kyle McClellan thinks he may have played his last game as a St. Louis Cardinal, according to a report from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. McClellan will be arbitration-eligible for the third time this winter, and his $2.5 million dollar salary for this season was enough to make the Cardinals entertain offers for him last year. After an injury led graduate Kyle McClellan to hit the bench in a game in May, everyone wondered whether the Cardinals pitcher and would get back on the mound by August, as he’d hoped. McClellan, a Hazelwood West graduate and former Florissant resident, had been on the disabled list with a strained right elbow. Then, during a July 3 throwing session, he aggravated a previous injury, CBS reported. But 28-year-old McClellan had surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn labrum, and it looks like he’ll be out for the remainder of the season. Kyle McClellan has been mum about some soreness in his right elbow for the past couple of weeks, but on Thursday, he couldn't hid the pain. McClellan, a Hazelwood West Alum, whom MLB.com called "the most versatile pitcher on the Cardinals' staff," left Thursday's 7-5 loss to the San Francisco Giants after throwing a couple of pitches to Emmanuel Burriss in the bottom of the seventh inning. McClellan allowed two hits and two walks over one-third of an inning before being replaced by Mitchell Boggs, according to RotoWorld.
