Hazelwood City Council will discuss the topic at a work session open to the public on Wednesday. The issue took up a large amount of time at the May 2 council meeting with members of various organizations speaking on the matter.
There's only one topic to be discussed at Wednesday's Hazelwood City Council Work Session: the 2012 International Building Codes and whether or not to pass them as law in the City of Hazelwood. The work session is scheduled for 6 p.m. The 2012 International Building Codes is a 722 page book that in a way governs how houses and other dwellings are constructed. It is a model building code developed by the International Code Council, which began in 1997 and is revised every three years. Different versions have been adopted throughout most states. The codes address a lot of fire codes and other areas including: City council does not have to adopt the 2012 codes, but rather decide to keep its current system or accept parts of the 2009 codes. …

The May 2 Hazelwood City Council meeting was your typical meeting up until the city manager's report. There were proclamations claiming certain weeks in May designated to recognize various departments including: Public hearings were pretty quiet. No residents spoke out in opposition of any of the proposed changes to the city's zoning regulations, which were all approved and made it over to first reading of bills. A final vote is needed before the changes become law. The rain didn't dampen the spirits of the hundreds of Hazelwood residents who attended Hazelwood Harvestfest Saturday. Local families and friends gathered at Hazelwood's Howdershell Park to participate in a full day of family-friendly activities at the annual event. "We always enjoy this event," said Randy McDaniel, Florissant Valley Kiwanis Club treasurer and secretary. "Unfortunately, the weather is not what it should be, and the crowd is pretty thin." The Kiwanis Club sold sodas and snacks, along with several other local organizations that set up booths at the event. McDaniel said that the event wasn't as busy as it has been in previous years, but that any proceeds collected would be donated to Kiwanis Club charities to help area kids. …
