Influenza on the Rise, Get a Flu Shot in Hazelwood

Depending on the severity of the outbreak, seasonal flu infects between 15 and 60 million Americans each flu season.

If you don't catch the flu, you can't spread it. That was the message St. Louis County Health Director Dolores J. Gunn was imparting in a September news release, as her department prepared for the next flu season. That time is upon us and a new warning Wednesday was released about a big spike in flu cases in St. Louis and St. Charles counties: 50 new cases in four days in St. Charles County; 210 in a week in St. Louis County. More than 200,000 people are hospitalized every year due to flu-related complications and around 36,000 of them die, according to the health department website.
