Was Hazelwood Baby Death Preventable?

Hazelwood Patch speaks with the Crisis Nursery about what parents can do when feeling stressed or that they may hurt their children.

Last week, a mother was charged in the City of Hazelwood with the murder of her infant son. The woman who was living out of an area hotel, said the incident was an accident and that she forgot she left the water running with the infant in the tub when she became distracted doing something else. Police arriving on the scene said she was administering CPR to the child, still prosecuting attorneys found reasonable cause to believe the incident was not an accident as she stated. Help 500 Area Families with St. Louis Crisis Nursery's Holiday Hearts Program

As part of the program children in need create a wish list and people can sponsor children for Christmas.

St. Louis Crisis Nursery has been in the Greater St. Louis Area 26 years. The organization, is an independent, not-for-profit agency funded by donations and committed to preventing child abuse and neglect by providing short-term, emergency shelter for children, birth through age 12, whose families are faced with emergencies or who are in crisis. Is looking for community members to help out a child this year via it's Holiday Hearts program. As of Dec. 6, only 35 families out of 500 still need to be adopted for the holidays, according to the Crisis Nursery twitter feed. Retailers See Increased Holiday Sales, Some Families Still Feeling the PInch

Tough times cause Hazelwood residents to get creative with holiday gift lists this year.

How is the holiday shoppping season treating your family this year? According to the 25th Annual Holiday Survey from the accounting firm, Deloitte, this holiday shopping season should be a little brighter for many families, since 62 percent reported that they'll spend more or the same on the holidays as they did last year—but nearly three-quarters of the respondents also said they'd change the way they shop this year in order to save money. And, though a recently released Brookings Institution study found that the economic climate of the metro St. Louis area has improved in the last year, many area Hazelwood familiesare still feeling the pinch during this holiday shopping season.
