Holiday Inn Express Breaks Ground in Hazelwood

The three-story hotel will be located in the Old K-Mart strip mall just off Interstate 270 on Taylor Road.

Two years in the making, ground is finally breaking on Holiday Inn Express in the City of Hazelwood. City Council approved the original special land use permit in 2010 with extensions granted in January of 2011 and every six months thereafter. The project was originally set to start in November 2010, on a one-acre site located in what area residents know as the old K-Mart parking lot at Taylor Road and Lindbergh Boulevard, but it faced a few hiccups along the way. The developer is Spa Hotels and Hazelwood's City Manager Edwin Carlstrom said in spring of this year the company was waiting on some funding in the form of Small Business Administration loans to begin construction. Hazelwood City Council Gives Its Final Nod on Holiday Inn Express

The council gave final approval on the land use permit allowing the developers to move forward with groundbreaking and construction, following an Oct. 5 public hearing.

Hazelwood City Council has given the final deciding vote on whether there will be a Holiday Inn Express built in Hazelwood, and the answer is yes. The project was originally set to start in November 2010, on a one-acre site located in what area residents know as the old K-Mart parking lot at Taylor Road and Lindbergh Boulevard. The developer, Spa Hotels, took the first step at the Sept. 7 Hazelwood City meeting. It sought a special land-use permit to proceed with the construction, because the original permit issued in 2010 expired on July 19. Dan Govero of Govero Land Services, spoke at the Oct. 5 council meeting representing Spa Hotels and said the special land-use permit previously granted over a year ago, had lapsed because of issues …
