Hazelwood West High Teacher Named Special School District’s Teacher of the Year

Inman earned the honor for her dedication to students and her innovative efforts to help them achieve their full potential.

Hazelwood West High Special School District teacher Denise Inman didn't know it, but her student's had something brewing in appreciation for her dedicaton to the profession. Karyn Jones, one of her students, nominated her for the Special School District of St. Louis County's (SSD) Teacher of the Year Award. She was announced as the winner in March. Inman, an 11 year SSD teacher, is the Hazelwood West High School (HWHS) special education department chair, and has done so for six years, according to the Hazelwood School District (HSD). She was a fantastic resource teacher for my son Jordan at West High School. She encouraged him to apply for the Fred Saigh Youth Leadership Award Program which he did and was accepted. Jordan and Sharon Fusco say congratulations. Much deserved!!   more ›

Hazelwood Schools Minority Suppliers On Target, Struggling to Find Women

The board of education heard a quarterly update to the supplier program at Tuesday's meeting.

The Hazelwood School District (HSD) Board of Education heard a quarterly update report regarding the district's supplier diversity program at Tuesday's meeting. The update included stats through Dec. 31, 2012, on minority and women supplier participation as it pertains to bid contracts awarded within the district. Kevin Cross, HSD director of supplier diversity, said as of the end of 2012, $13.1 million has been spent from the current 2012-13 fiscal year operating funds. Of that, $4.2 million has been used on professional services, $8.7 million was spent on supplies & equipment and $49,600 was used in the construction category (not related to Phase 3, Proposition H). It's good to make sure contracting programs are open to all, that bidding opportunities are widely publicized beforehand, and that no one gets discriminated against because of skin color, national origin, or sex.
