More of out tax dollars at waste. It seems its just another way for them to make it look like they are dealing with the problem . It does not take a committee it takes staff and teachers with a backbone. I know plenty of parents that have issues at this school with the bullies. The child being bullied is expected to take it and walk away and child doing it never faces consequences. If the bullied…   more ›

If this happened the way the story says it happened, than arrest and expel should be the only result. However, knowing the way the school system works, be careful to judge too quickly. I certainly hope the district did not add their own twist to the facts in order to get these kids out. It happens everyday in our school system. An example, the kid who brings nail clippers to school and gets …   more ›

Local Students Raise Funds for Historic Statue

Hazelwood West Middle School and Russell Elementary join in the effort to honor Dred and Harriet Scott.

Marty Mintman, an English teacher at Hazelwood West Middle School isn’t just passionate about teaching his students proper grammar and spelling. As a self-proclaimed “history buff,” Mintman strives to make history come to life for his classes. When an opportunity arose to participate in raising funds to erect a statue honoring St. Louisians Dred Scott and his wife Harriet, Mintman was excited to join in the effort. “I wanted my students to contribute to an important monument with local connections that they could share with their future children and grandchildren,” he said. Proud to be an American

Three Hazelwood West Middle School students won awards from the Florissant Elks’ “Why I am Proud to be an American” essay contest.

Aaron Hinton, Alex Simmons and Bonnie Vigland discussed their 250-word essays and what it means to them to be U.S. Citizens with the Hazelwood School District (HSD) Communications Office. “It feels good to me personally because I want to be an author,” Alex said. “I tried to zoom in on our nation as compared to other countries in what makes us lucky. "Some countries have dictatorships, I have a great deal of pride being an American (and) I feel that my life would be a lot different and probably for the worse if I lived somewhere else.”  Bonnie said the United States is not as bad some people and places portray it.  “After I figured out what I was going to do, it didn’t take long to write,” she said. “A lot of people here think we have it…
