St. Louis County Library Asks Hazelwood Voters to OK Tax Levy on November Ballot

According to the library system, the 6 cent increase would cost on average $17.10 per year on a $150,000 home.

For those that frequent Prairie Commons Library here in the City of Hazelwood to check out books, movies, use the Internet or partake in the classes offered at the location, imagine seeing cuts to these free resources. Consider what it would feel like if the heat broke in the winter and there were no funds to replace the system. The St. Louis County Library System (SLCL) recently contracted to update its Facilities Master Plan, which lets those that manage the county libraries know the state of each building The findings, which are posted on the library’s website, indicate the need for significant capital improvements to meet growing community needs. Passage of Prop H Adds Up to Dollars for Hazelwood Schools

Voter approval means upgrades to facilities in the Hazelwood School District.

Voters in Hazelwood signaled their support for local schools when they approved Proposition H. Seventy-five percent of them sent plans for a wide range of upgrades and renovations to the head of class on election day. The measure provides for a $120 million bond issue that would fund the work without a tax-rate increase. "Work can begin as early as the spring," said Diana Gulotta, Assistant Superintendant of Communications for the Hazelwood School District. "It depends on where they [the schools] are on the timeline, how much work we can do while school is in, and what has to be done during the summer when school is out.
