IHOP will give every person in America a free short stack of pancakes to celebrate National Pancake Day, but to consider helping a few children in the process.
Tuesday is National Pancake Day and to celebrate, the International House of Pancakes (IHOP) is offering every person in America a free short stack of its signature buttermilk pancakes for free, from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. The popular breakfast restaurant has celebrated National Pancake Day since 2006 and in the past seven years has raised nearly $10 million to support charities in the communities in which it operates. The pancakes are technically free, however IHOP goers are asked to consider leaving a donation for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and other designated local charities, IHOP's website says. Volunteers help prepare basic tax returns for low income and people with disabilities from February through April.
Volunteers from St. Louis and surrounding counties are sought to provide free tax counseling and basic income tax return preparation through the Gateway EITC Community Coalition and AARP. Volunteers must have basic computer skills to complete the e-learning course. Volunteers will provide individual tax returns for low to moderate income and disabled taxpayers for as few as four hours a week from February to April. 5,200 free gun lock and firearm safety education materials will be given away Aug. 16 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., or while supplies last. See locations in the St. Louis region, including law enforcement agencies and hospitals.
Anyone desiring a free gun lock can head to one of the following St. Louis metropolitan locations on Thursday between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. A total of 5,200 gun locks are being made available by Project ChildSafe for giving away throughout the region, according to a Tuesday St. Louis County Police Department news release. Project ChildSafe is a nationwide program designed to help ensure safe and responsible firearm ownership and storage. It was developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) members, and supported by a U.S. Department of Justice grant. Hazelwood’s Harry S. Truman Park, 7029 Howdershell Road, will be the place to be on Saturday to hear some of the best classic rock songs ever recorded. A five-piece band of seasoned musicians, known as Whole New Head, will be playing rock ‘n roll the way it was meant to be played and heard. The concert begins at 7 p.m. Based in South St. Louis County, this new band has been making a name of itself performing all over the St. Louis region and on the Metro East side. Its repertoire includes classic rock, current rock and some original music. Local music critics believe this is a band to watch and develop into a chart busting powerhouse.
