Hazelwood Man Gets 7 Years for Role in 2011 Murder, Robbery

Jamon Spurlock pleaded guilty last September to second-degree robbery. His sentencing was May 3.

A Hazelwood man will spend the next seven years of his life in a prison cell after being sentenced on a robbery charge. Jamon Spurlock, 20, of the 7000 block of Lauphner was 18 years old when police said he and James Wilson murdered a Bel-Ridge man. Spurlock originally was charged with murder in the case, but pleaded guilty last September to second-degree robbery. Circuit Court Judge Richard C. Bresnahan sentenced him to serve his time in a Missouri Department of Corrections prison on May 3. Remember you can like Hazelwood Patch on Facebook. Hazelwood Man to be Sentenced for Involvement in 2011 Murder

Jamon Spurlock pleaded guilty last September to second-degree robbery. His sentencing is today.

Jamon Spurlock, 20, of the 7000 block of Lauphner in Hazelwood was 18 years old when police said he and James Wilson murdered a Bel-Ridge man. Spurlock originally was charged with murder in the case, but pleaded guilty last September to second-degree robbery. He will go before a judge today for sentencing. North County Cancer Cluster Dispute Heats Up at Radioactive Waste Meeting

A MO Department of Health and Senior Services employee admits her department does not have the means to execute a true and effective survey to determine a NoCo cancer cluster.

The James J. Eagan Community Center played host to a room of people who said they aren't giving up or backing down, Thursday night. "The federal government has poisoned us and it's their responsibility to take care of us," Kim Thone Visintine, who grew up in the area, said. She along with other North County residents, past and current, filled the gymnasium to listen to governmental agencies update remediation and other efforts related to radioactive waste dumped in the area and spread through Coldwater Creek, as well as groundwater. Some of those in attendance no longer live in the area. Visintine drove from Detroit, Mich., to be at the meeting. The defining moment of the meeting was when Cherri Bysinger spoke. Hazelwood Releases List of Registered Contractors

This is a list of contractors that have registered with the city and been approved for a permit to do business following the Hazelwood tornado.

To make the decision making process a bit easier for residents trying to rebuild after the tornado that swept through the area two weeks ago, the City of Hazelwood has released a list of contractors who have applied for a permit to do work in the city. The company's had to register with the city's finance department for a permit to do business.  To view the list click on the photo to the right of this article in the photo gallery section. Tornado Updates

Hazelwood Tornado Caused more than $4 Million in Damage

The St. Louis County Assessor's Office says preliminary numbers show the tornado that ripped through Hazelwood and Florissant caused about $4 million in damage to residential property.

St. Louis County Assessor Jake Zimmerman, and his team, was in Hazelwood and Florissant last week assessing damage from the April 10 tornado that ripped through the area. He said he now can confirm about $4 million in damage from the tornado to residential property alone. "This doesn't include commercial property," Zimmerman said. "It looks like there is about $3.5 million in uninhabitable property, and about $500,000 of moderate damage to other property."
