The fire may have been accidental, according to Hazelwood Police.
Two families might be very greatful after surviving an apartment fire in the City of Hazelwood Wednesday night. The Hazelwood Police Department (HPD) reports it responded to an apartment fire at about 11:04 p.m. The Hazelwood Fire Department (HFD), along with assisting agencies were on the scene of the fire at 8403 Tally Ho responding. According to the police report, upon the officers' arrival they observed flames coming from the rear of the apartment building. HFD extinguished the fire, which HPD said appeared to be accidental. No injuries reported during the incident, but two families are now displaced. The American Red Cross of the Greater St. Louis Region is heling both families with supplies, clothing and a place to stay for the night…

Hazelwood Police said an officer responding to a burglary call saw the defendant smashing aquariums in Beldt’s Aquarium on Howdershell Road.
A Florissant man broke into a closed Hazelwood pet store and broke aquariums Dec. 31, police said. A witness reported seeing Joseph Lombardo, 38, shatter a rear, glass door at Beldt’s Aquarium at 7025 Howdershell Road and go inside, Hazelwood Police said. A Hazelwood officer responding to the call said he saw Lombardo inside the store throwing the aquariums on the floor. Lombardo, 38, of the 300 block of DeSmet Drive in Florissant, was charged Jan. 1 with second-degree burglary and second-degree property damage. He was being held in St. Louis County jail Friday. Bail was set at $15,000. The owner of the former Beldt’s Aquarium, Mike Mansfield, was killed in an apartment fire last August. The store had been closed for several months before …

This Fourth of July holiday is a dry one so the Hazelwood Police Department is reminding residents to think twice before shooting off fireworks.
Fireworks are prohibited within the City of Hazelwood as noted in the following two city ordinances: Section 215.100 and Section 215.090. Keep this in mind throughout the week as you celebrate America's independence during the Fourth of July holiday. The Hazelwood Police Department is realistic in knowing people have already begun and will continue to shoot fireworks from home, but wants people to know the risks they are taking.
