We've been hoping forecasters would back off that prediction for a large spring snowfall, but they haven't.
Our hopes for a change of heart among weather forecasters have been dashed. The National Weather Service and local meteorologists are still calling for a massive winter storm to sweep over the St. Louis metro area overnight tonight. Glenn Zimmerman, meteorologist for Patch news partner FOX2, says rain should start tonight in the area at about 9 or 10 p.m., changing into snow sometime Sunday morning. He said the heaviest bursts of snowfall may be from around noon to 2 p.m. That forecast differs only slight from the storm alert from the National Weather Service: Rain will overspread the area Saturday evening. More than 160 people from throughout the St. Louis and St. Charles county areas attended debate viewing parties at two local movie theaters for Wednesday's showdown between GOP candidate Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama. The verdict: A split decision in St. Charles; Romney the winner in Des Peres. About 57 people attended the viewing party, sponsored by Patch and FOX2, at the Wehrenberg St. Charles Stadium 18 Cine; another 107 attended the party at Wehrenberg's Des Peres 14 Cine. In the interview with Charles Jaco, the Senate candidate said "legitimate rape" would not cause pregnancy. Late Sunday night, the Romney-Ryan campaign weighed in.
Comments by U.S. Rep. Todd Akin suggesting that "legitimate rape" would not cause a woman to get pregant have raced like wildfire around the Internet and put the U.S. Senate candidate on his heels. Akin, the Wildwood Republican, is running for the Senate against incumbent Claire McCaskill. In an interview with Patch news partner FOX2 that aired on Sunday with Charles Jaco, Akin was explaining his position against abortion even in cases of rape. "First of all, from what I understand from doctors, (pregnancy) is really rare” in rape cases, Akin told Jaco. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down." Rush Limbaugh, the controversial conservative commentator, was enshrined into the Hall of Famous Missourians this week, sparking controversy across the state and country on whether Limbaugh should be worth of such an honor. Limbaugh's name now sits amongst such famous Missourians as Mark Twain, Dred Scott, Jack Buck and Stan Musial. According to the St. Louis Beacon, Missouri House Speaker Steve Tilley gave reporters less than a half-hour’s notice of the ceremony.
