HSD in partnership with Allied Waste held several e-waste recycling drives where the community could get rid of unwanted electronics.
Just about 34,803 pounds of electronic trash will not end up in an area landfill, and it because of the Hazelwood School Districts (HSD) efforts to encourage the community to consider recycling. HSD partnered with Republic Services during the winter to collect 34,803 pounds of electronics during its community electronic waste recycling drives. Wiley and Iakeem Williams, along with another man were found with the stolen items next door to the home they burglarized, police say.
Three men, including two Hazelwood residents, are accused of breaking into a Spanish Lake home on Friday. Wiley Williams Jr, 21, Ramses Williams, 20, and Iakeem Williams, 19, were charged Saturday with second-degree burglary and felony theft. Wiley and Iakeem Williams are from the 7400 block of Hazelcrest Drive in Hazelwood. Ramses Williams is from the 9200 block of Hopedale Drive in Bellefontaine Neighbors. St. Louis County Police said the three men broke out a rear window at a home in the 12100 block of Barcelona Drive in Spanish Lake. They then stole a flat-screen television, two laptops, jewelry and a Canadian coin, police said. Local residents are encouraged to get plugged into the national celebration of American recycling by bringing their unwanted electronics to this event.
Do a final swoop of the house before Christmas and get rid of that old junk cluttering your closets. The City of Hazelwood's Green Committee, along with the Hazelwood School District and Allied Waste, is hosting a community Recycle Day at St. Louis Outlet Mall Saturday. Hours are from 8 a.m. to Noon. The event will take place on the parking lot in front of IceZone. There is no charge to drop-off items. Hazelwood's second annual Recycle Day gives residents the opportunity to dump large unwanted items for free.
Sometimes a little push is needed to get rid of the old junk that collects dust in the home. Or maybe just a little incentive, like a free place to drive up, dump the trash and not think twice. The City of Hazelwood offered this opportunity to its residents earlier in the month on June 4, and residents jumped at the opportunity. "We’re still trying to get some numbers from a couple of the participating vendors for Saturday’s “Recycle Day,”' said Hazelwood communications coordinator Tim Davidson. "But preliminary results indicate that we serviced 616 cars and collected 79.5 tons of recyclable items." In an effort to reduce items sent to landfills, Hazelwood's Green Committee is sponsoring a day of recycling at St. Louis Mills for electronics and other items.
The City of Hazelwood is giving residents a call to action to clean out the clutter in their homes and bring their unwanted appliances, electronics and other recyclable items to the community's annual "Recycle Day" at St. Louis Mills Saturday. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Last year, 706 vehicles drove through the even area and dropped off nearly 80 tons of recyclable items. The City of Hazelwood in partnership with its Green Committee is sponsoring this ecological event. The focus is to "save the planet by helping to reduce the need for more landfills." A Hazelwood man was charged May 9 in St. Louis County Circuit Court with stealing. Hazelwood Police said in a report that Howard Jenkins, 20, of the 6700 block of Mathew Street in Northwoods, grabbed an iPad from a victim at 4 a.m. Aug. 28 at LaQuinta Inn, 318 Taylor Road. Hi Laurie, The simplest solution would be to make an appointment at your local Apple Store. Their technical support is called the "Genius Bar" and appointments are free. If there is a repair that needs to be made, they quote it in advance. Just remember that you do need an appointment in advance. Walk-ins usually have to wait a while. more ›
