State Treasurer Clint Zweifel: "This is a Community in Which Neighbors Help Neighbors"

Zweifel grew up in the Florissant-Hazelwood area and graduated from Hazelwood West High School. He came home to check on family and friends following Wednesday's tornado.

Missouri State Treasurer Clint Zweifel was in Hazelwood Thursday to view tornado damage. Zweifel tweeted he was going back to St. Louis to check on family and friends. According to the National Weather Service, the tornado that hit Hazelwood  and made a path of destruction through to Florissant, was classified as a preliminary EF-2. An EF-2, the weather service says, typically has wind speeds of 111 to 165 MPH. Missouri's money manager grew up in North County and graduated from Hazelwood West High School. "I grew up across from Koch Park (in Florissant)," he told Patch. Zweifel said seeing the damage done to an area where he grew up was devastating. However, when walking around neighborhoods talking to residents, he was reminded of why he'…

Clint Zweifel Says He'll See Through State Treasurer Term Despite Lt. Governor Chatter

Just elected to a four-year term in November, Missouri's State Treasurer is seen by some as a possible candidate for Lieutenant Governor if a vacancy is created.

In what he called a "sincere statement," Missouri State Treasurer Clint Zweifel told Patch Wednesday he would serve a full term in office, despite some speculation he could be a candidate for lieutenant governor. Zweifel, a former state representative from Florissant and Hazelwood West High School (HWHS) alum, spoke to a group of small business owners at Pulaski Bank in Creve Coeur Wednesday. State Treasurer Clint Zweifel swung by HWHS and took some time to visit with government students. Zweifel is Hazelwood West High School alumni, graduating in 1992. His office personally invited Hazelwood Patch to sit in on his discussion. Clint Zweifel Re-elected as Missouri State Treasurer

Democratic incumbent Clint Zweifel gave his acceptance speech just before midnight Tuesday, after a night of number watching in a close race with Republican challenger Cole McNary.

Democratic incumbent Clint Zweifel and Republican challenger Rep. Cole McNary faced off in the Nov. 6 election for the position of Missouri State Treasurer.  As results came in Tuesday night, both candidates gathered with friends and family at St. Louis area watch parties. Initially, it was a tight race, but ultimately Zweifel declared victory and thanked his supporters just before midnight. "I think a lot of this illustrates hard work and investment in each other," Zweifel said. With 100 percent of the precincts counted early Wednesday morning, Zweifel had 50.3 percent of the vote and McNary had 45.5 percent of the vote. Zweifel tells Patch McNary did call him and concede Tuesday night. Both parties tell Patch they knew it would be a …

Democratic Statewide Candidates Converge On St. Louis County

Governor Jay Nixon and others battle perception that Mitt Romney could give Republicans a lift in Missouri on election day.

One day after most of the statewide Republican Party ticket made its way to St. Louis County with a rally in Valley Park, Democrats, led by Governor Jay Nixon, gathered outside a Town and Country-area labor hall to urge on volunteers in the closing days of the campaign. Nixon, Lieutenant Governor candidate Susan Montee, State Treasurer Clint Zweifel, Attorney General Chris Koster and Secretary of State candidate Jason Kander were at the The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union Hall in unincorporated St. Louis County just north of Manchester Road after many of them had been at a Webster Groves rally featuring former U.S. Representative Dick Gephardt. Nixon, who played ringleader for the event, said that between Saturday …

Mr. Koster's attitude, questionable judgment and lack of interest in pursuing justice in the Ryan Ferguson case should scare the daylights out of all MO voters. Citizens of MO, cast your votes wisely because this could happen to you, your children or your grandchildren. Mr. Koster's denial of Ryan’s habeas petition and his argument that another hearing for Ryan is a “waste of judicial resources” …   more ›

Patch Poll: Confidence Jay Nixon Will Win Because He's 'Shunning' The Democratic Party

The latest Blue Arch survey of Democratic activists asked about the party's slate of candidates for statewide office November 6.

Democrats are overwhelmingly confident that Missouri Governor Jay Nixon will be re-elected to a second term in Jefferson City. They are pessimistic that a Democrat will occupy the office that is second in line. In the latest unscientific Patch Blue Arch survey conducted Thursday through Saturday morning, 21 activists, current and former officials, and voters responded to questions about the party's statewide ticket. When asked "Which statewide candidate are you most confident will win in November," 81 percent answered Jay Nixon, who is running against St. Louis area businessman Dave Spence, a political newcomer. Chris Koster received 14 point 3 percent and 4.8 percent answered Clint Zweifel. Why? Democrats said it is because Nixon is …

Patch Democrats Surveyed: High On Jay Nixon's Chances, Concerned About Susan Montee

The latest "Blue Arch" survey of Missouri Democrats focuses on the party's statewide candidates.

With just more than 40 days left until the November election, Missouri Democrats are confident in Governor Jay Nixon's chances for re-election but by a wide margin are worried about former State Auditor Susan Montee as she tries to unseat Republican incumbent Peter Kinder from the Lieutenant Governor's office. Those were the main findings of the most recent survey of Democrats as part of the Patch Blue Arch project, which asks current and former lawmakers, activists, voters and other party "influencers" in the weeks and months leading up to November's election. The non-scientific survey was conducted September 17-21 and received 29 responses. When asked "Which statewide candidate are you most confident will win in November," 69 percent …

Patch Political Potpourri: Wagner Haul Raises Eyebrows

The Wagner campaign responds to speculation from Politico that she may switch races.

Ann Wagner wowed political observers with her latest fundraising quarter. So much so, in fact, that at least one politico speculated that she might be eyeing another contest. Wagner, a Ballwin Republican who previously served as Missouri Republican Party chairwoman and ambassador to Luxemburg, raised $532,093.07 in the 3rd quarter for her 2nd Congressional District bid. That was far more than what the other GOP contender for the seat, Republican attorney Ed Martin, brought in during the fundraising quarter. “I am honored to have earned the trust and support of so many citizens across the 2nd District,” said Wagner in a statement. “I am energized by the strength and momentum of our campaign. And I intend to answer the call of the people to …
