Patch Census Stories: What the Numbers Say About Hazelwood

Patch Regional Editor Holly Edgell discusses the series.This week, we look at median household income in Hazelwood and what the numbers say about life in this community.

So far in the Patch "Census Stories" series, we've looked at communities that have grown since 2000. Hazelwood has gotten a bit smaller since the last census count, losing about 1,500 residents. On Friday, Patch associate local editor and roving reporter Joe Scott will look at how the economic picture in the City of Hazelwood may be playing a role in the shrinkage.  The big picture: a split personality? As a recent transplant to the area, I can’t help but feel there is a split personality aspect to life in metro St. Louis. On the one hand, many St. Louisans seem to never have considered living anywhere else.
