Plus, Hazelwood West has strong representation on the all-conference baseball team, including the Fosdick cousins.
The Suburban North 2012 all-conference baseball team has been announced and Hazelwood West High School is standout in the number of players participating. On May 16, the Wildcats won the MSHSAA Class 4 District 5 championship. Hazelwood West defeated archrival Hazelwood Central 5-3, while playing on home soil at Hazelwood West High School. At the top of the all-conference list is Oday Al-Yatim. Yatim was announced as players of the year. He will share the title with McCluer North's Peter Jackson. Jared Fosdick was the only Wildcat to make conference's first team. His cousin, Brendan Fosdick, along with five other Hazelwood West players made second team including: Newcomer of the year: Carter Hanford, Pattonville Coach of the year: Mark …

The Wildcats storm back from early deficit to knock off St. Dominic, a team that had won 10 straight games before Friday's tournament matchup in O'Fallon.
O'FALLON -- The early part of Friday's Ft. Zumwalt North Invitational Tournament (FZN Tourney) opening game at Westhoff Park, began as many others had for tourney favorite and No. 3 ranked area small school baseball team, St. Dominic High. The Crusaders turned a walk, a stolen base, and two basehits into a 2-0 lead in the second inning, and were getting dominant pitching from ace starter Jacob Wehde. But then a funny thing happened on the way to another St. Dom easy win. The opponent on the field, the Hazelwood West Wildcats, remembered they are Hazelwood West and they don't give up so easily. And boy did the Wildcats remember in a big way, scoring five runs in the fifth inning, and six more in the seventh, to completely blow away the …

Known better for their pitching talents, cousins Brendan and Jared Fosdick have also been dynamite at the plate for the Wildcats this season.
Winning on the baseball diamond has become a family affair at Hazelwood West High School. Head coach Matt McClellan is the brother of St. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Kyle McClellan, who also attended Hazelwood West and graduated in 2002. Last year's star player was Trevor Jones, a speedy outfielder and two-time all-conference selection for the Wildcats, just like his older brother Nate was a few years ago. And this season, it's a pair of cousins, Brendan and Jared Fosdick, that has led Hazelwood West to a 7-4 record and to within a half-game of first place in the Suburban North Conference standings this season. "It's great having them on the team," McClellan said. "They're an important part of what we do, and they're good leaders for …

The Pirates survive marathon ballgame against the Wildcats in an early-season Suburban North Conference showdown, thanks to senior Matt Wilkes' ninth-inning, game-winning double.
Just about every time one of the teams from Pattonville High School squares off against one of the teams from Hazelwood West High School, no matter what the sport, there's a pretty good chance the result is going to be some kind of dynamite athletic competition, that won't be decided until the game's final moments. Automatic Rivalry That's what happened when the Pirates and Wildcats met in boys and girls basketball, football, soccer, and swimming this year. So it should be no surprise that on Thursday afternoon, at West's Beckemeier Baseball Field, the teams waged another fantastic battle in their longtime athletic rivalry. And this time, it was the Pirates who came out on top, claiming a nine-inning, 5-4 victory over the Wildcats, in a …

The Pattonville Pirates should be exhausted. They had to work hard to take the win away from the Hazelwood West Wildcats on Thursday. The game went two extra innings, with both teams having chances to win it in either of the extra frames. In the end the Pirates came out on top, claiming a nine-inning, 5-4 victory over the Wildcats, but not without some great plays and hits from both teams. Check out the photos to see what we're talking about. Can the Wildcats take it all the way and end up on top in Suburban North Conference play?

Healthy and on the mound again, senior Brendan Fosdick tosses a complete-game shutout to lead Wildcats past the visiting Stars.
Not even a pesky early-inning rainstorm could put a damper on the first home game of the season for the Hazelwood West baseball team, which took on rival McCluer North, Thursday afternoon at Beckemeier Field. The Wildcats, a new and improved bunch over last year's 14-13 club, withstood the intermittent rains, and with a bit of clutch hitting, some terrific defense, and a sensational pitching performance by senior Brendan Fosdick, easily dispatched the visiting Stars for a 6-0 win. "It was a good win for sure," said West head coach Matt McClellan. "I thought we played a pretty good game all the way around." Especially on the mound, where Fosdick simply mowed down McCluer North, with a brilliant complete-game effort, in which he allowed no…
