St. Louis Cardinals Season Ends in San Francisco

The Giants beat the Cardinals 9-0 in Game 7 to end the Redbirds' 2012 season.

There will be no World Series in St. Louis this season.  There will be no parade down Market Street, no 12th world championship and no rematch of the 2006 Fall Classic. Monday night in San Francisco the Cardinals hopes of a repeat of 2011 were ended at the hands of the Giants.  Just like in 1996, the Cardinals, with a new manager, had a 3-1 lead in the National League Championship series. And, just like in '96, the Cards failed to get win No. 4, losing in Game 7 in a blowout.  The Cardinals were done in by a series of miscues and the inability to get a big basehit. But, credit the San Francisco, the Giants had to play perfect to come back and did just that.  The loss in California closes the book on an interesting season for the Cardinals…

TRADE TALK: What Would You Do If You Were In The Cardinals' Front Office?

Major League Baseball's non-waiver trade deadline is July 31.

For St. Louis Cardinal executives and the team's die-hard fans, this time of year is a familiar exercise. Get past the All-Star break, take stock of where you are in the standings, and decide if you have what it takes to make a run in the postseason. One year ago on July 27, the Cardinals wheeled and dealed their way to transactions that sent Colby Rasmus to Toronto, and brought pitchers Edwin Jackson, Octavio Dotel and Marc Rzepczynski back to St. Louis, among others. Heading into Friday's game against the Chicago Cubs, the Cardinals were 53-46, just a few games back of the second Wild Card playoff spot. With the July 31 deadline looming to trade players without having to clear waivers--meaning making traded players available to other …

Seemingly everybody in St. Louis—baseball fan or not—has a great memory of Jack Buck, the legendary St. Louis Cardinals broadcaster.  Whether it was a candid moment on the streets outside Busch Stadium or a famous play-by-play call heard around the country, Jack Buck touched so many lives that he is considered St. Louis royalty. Here's a tribute Bob Costas, a St. Louis-native, left for Jack Buck in the book "Remembering Jack Buck: Wonderful Stories Celebrating The Life Of A Broadcasting Legend": "Jack had a presence in the life of anyone who was around St. Louis for any period of time. There were highlights—Ozzie Smith's home run, Jack Clark's home run, and the reading of the poem when baseball returned after the September 11 tragedy. …

Hazelwood's David Phelps Back to Long Relief

NY Yankees pitcher David Phelps, a Hazelwood native, has been moved back to the bullpen following Andy Pettitte's return to the rotation.

David Phelps has been moved back to the bullpen following Andy Pettitte's return to the rotation. Phelps, the Hazelwood West graduate, made his first starting appearance on May 3 against the Royals in Kansas City. To most baseball connoisseurs it was the obvious move due to Pettitte's return. Phelps will slide back into a long relief role, according to Roto World. Bleeding Yankee Blue senior writer Mikey Blue said Phelps should be commended for stepping up the the mound. "David Phelps did a tremendous job for the Yankees, answering their call for a starter after Freddy Garcia really just couldn't get it together this season as a starter," he said on his May 14 blog. "Look, that's why Phelps is there, a starter himself and reliable, it was …
