Yes or No: $700M on St. Louis Rams' Dome Upgrades?

The St. Louis Rams have outlined a renovation plan for the Edward Jones Dome that is estimated to cost $700 million.

The Rams want us to buy them a new house. Just fixing up its current home—the Edward Jones Dome—won't do. Instead, the St. Louis football franchise expects an extreme makeover, to the tune of $700 million, as it is estimated by a company hired by the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission (CVC) to analyze the team's counter proposal to a the CVC's own plan to upgrade the Edward Jones Dome with a $124 million facelift. If someone doesn't cough up the $700 mil to redo the Dome, it is feared the team will take its football and go home to Los Angeles, where it came from before it was the St. Louis franchise. All of this wrangling was set in motion in 1995 when the team negotiated a 30-year lease with the CVC. It was stipulated that the …

That amendment prevents an increase in state residents percentage of taxes from income. I do not believe it would cover a hotel tax or tourism tax. The two articles I saw said that there are many loop holes in the amendment. I could be wrong.   more ›

Blues Ownership Back in Local Hands for First Time Since 1999

The St. Louis Blues, which use IceZone at St. Louis Mills in Hazelwood as a practice facility, is now beer distributor Tom Stillman and a local ownership group's responsibility.

When local business man Tom Stillman took to the microphone at the Scottrade Center Thursday, it marked the first time in more than a decade, the St. Louis Blues will be in local hands. It's not since Kiel Center Partners, under the watchful eyes of Mark Sauer and Jerry Ritter, ran the show in 1991-1999 could the Blues fully say they belonged to good Ol' St. Louie. The St. Louis Blues have battled the tides of changing economies and different places in the standings since the days when insurance magnate Sidney Salomon brought professional hockey to St. Louis for the 1966-67 season. An array of different owners with varying personalities ran the show first at the old Arena on Oakland Avenue, of which the named changed to the Checker Dome in…

All Day Oday: Another Brilliant Season at the Plate for the Wildcats

Coming off an all-conference junior season, senior Oday Al-Yatim has improved his numbers in every way, and leads the Hazelwood West Wildcats in batting average, hits, RBIs, and on-base percentage.

Even after delivering a first-team all-conference season last year as the starting catcher for the Hazelwood West High School varsity baseball team, senior Oday Al-Yatim just wasn't satisfied. Nevermind he hit .342 and had 17 runs batted in, for a team that made it to the district championship game. He was also selected as the designated hitter for the Suburban North Conference all-star team last year. Al-Yatim spent the entire offseason believing he didn't really play his best his junior year, and that he needed to have a big senior season if he really wanted to showcase his talents. "That's just the kind of kid Oday is," said Hazelwood West head coach Matt McClellan. "He's an unbelievable hard-worker. He works on every aspect of his game…

Hazelwood's Yankees Pitcher David Phelps Gets His Starting Shot

The Hazelwood native who is a New York Yankees relief pitcher will move to the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation to replace Freddy Garcia, until Andy Pettitte is ready to reclaim that spot. Phelps will start Thursday against the Kansas City Royals.

It was only a matter of time. That's what you see on most sports blogs about Hazelwood native and New York Yankees relief pitcher David Phelps. It was only a matter of time before the early season struggles of Yankees starters Phil Hughes and Freddy Garcia forced manger Joe Girardi to change things up a bit. And boy is Hazelwood proud of the changes Girardi's made. Phelps, who has already faced every St. Louis boy's idol for at least the last decade and come out victorious, will start Thursday's game against the Kansas City Royals. He pitched against Albert Pujols and his Angels without breaking a sweat or allowing him to score. Phelps arrived in Missouri Wednesday afternoon ahead of the club, and expects at least 25 family members and …

Hazelwood West Claims Big Win Over St. Dominic in Ft. Zumwalt North Tournament

The Wildcats storm back from early deficit to knock off St. Dominic, a team that had won 10 straight games before Friday's tournament matchup in O'Fallon.

O'FALLON -- The early part of Friday's Ft. Zumwalt North Invitational Tournament (FZN Tourney) opening game at Westhoff Park, began as many others had for tourney favorite and No. 3 ranked area small school baseball team, St. Dominic High. The Crusaders turned a walk, a stolen base, and two basehits into a 2-0 lead in the second inning, and were getting dominant pitching from ace starter Jacob Wehde. But then a funny thing happened on the way to another St. Dom easy win. The opponent on the field, the Hazelwood West Wildcats, remembered they are Hazelwood West and they don't give up so easily. And boy did the Wildcats remember in a big way, scoring five runs in the fifth inning, and six more in the seventh, to completely blow away the …

NFL Draft: What Should The St. Louis Rams Do?

The team has the sixth overall pick in the first round of the NFL Draft.

The St. Louis Rams already have made one of the biggest draft-related moves of the offseason, trading the second overall selection in this year's draft to the Washington Redskins, who are widely expected to take Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III after the Indianapolis Colts pick Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck. Round 1 will be held Thursday evening, rounds 2-3 on Friday night and the remainder of the draft will take place Saturday. The Rams are holding an official draft night party Thursday at Dave & Busters in Maryland Heights, featuring appearances by players and cheerleaders and the team's Mascot, Rampage. At the moment, the Rams have the sixth pick, and have needs at a variety of positions, including wide receiver, cornerback, …

Third Annual Kicks For Cancer Soccer Game Another Rousing Success

Hazelwood West's fundraising idea borne out of a coach shopping for new equipment, has grown into one of the area's best high school soccer events of the year.

CHESTERFIELD -- One day while at a coaching convention in New York three and a half years ago, Pattonville girls soccer coach Tom Iffrig and assistant coach Scott Johnson were walking past a manufacturer's display for its new pink soccer balls and had a wonderful, simultaneous idea. "We both looked at them, and then at the same time, we turned to each other and said, 'we should do a cancer awareness game'," Iffrig said, on Thursday, after Pattonville played in the Third Annual Kicks For Cancer event at Parkway Central High. "We talked to some people about it, and kind of put it together quickly. And now three years later, it's grown into all this." All this, is an event that while still in its infancy, has grown into an occasion that has …

Hazelwood West Suffers Loss in 3rd Annual Kicks for Cancer Game Against Pattonville

Freshman Erica Atnip scored two goals in the final eight minutes for Hazelwood West to close out the scoring, but the Wildcats couldn't make it a win in the 4-2 loss.

CHESTERFIELD -- The third Annual Kicks For Cancer game might've been the biggest one ever. Pattonville and Hazelwood West high schools hoped the annual meeting between the girls soccer rivals would raise more than $10,000 for cancer research and awareness. This year, the event expanded a bit by adding another game, between West County rivals Parkway Central and Parkway South, which means more possible revenue for the charity, and it would give the Pirates and Wildcats a chance to play at the beautiful new Parkway Central Stadium, where the Colts have a brand-new field turf playing surface. But on that field, the matchup between Pattonville and Hazelwood West remains the same -- the two best teams in the Suburban North Conference, duking …
