Hazelwood Crime: Wife Arrested for Assault with Screwdriver

Hazelwood Reassures Parents of School Building Safety After Moore, Okla. Tornado

The letter outlines some HSD safety measures for severe weather, and tips for talking to children about tragedy and grief. Information released Tuesday showed two elementary schools in the Oklahoma tornado lacked designated safe rooms for the schools.

Two elementary schools leveled by the deadly tornado that swept through the Oklahoma City area Monday are said to have lacked designated safe rooms for children and teachers, according to the Huffington Post. An emergency official said more than 100 Oklahoma schools have storm shelters for children, but Briarwood Elementary and Plaza Towers Elementary—where seven children were killed as they sheltered in above-ground classrooms—did not, according to The Denver Channel. At least two other schools in City of Moore, which is the epicenter of the disaster, did have safe rooms. Fatalities have been tied to those schools, whose buildings were fortified after a tornado devastated the area in 1999. This week's tornado followed the same path of …

Oklahoma Tornado: How You Can Help the Victims

The Red Cross, Salvation Army and other organizations have made it easy to contribute to the recovery effort after a tornado ripped through Oklahoma City and its suburbs.

Americans across the country are reacting with shock to the devastation caused by a 2-mile wide tornado in Oklahoma. Dozens have died, and President Barack Obama has declared the path of the tornado a major disaster area. If you would like to help, you can do so from your computer or mobile device right now. Patch will be posting stories of locals who are working to help victims from afar. Hazelwood Employee Joe Novy Named Code Enforcement Officer of the Year

The Missouri Association of Code Enforcement named the 10-year veteran of the Hazelwood Code Enforcement Division its 2012 Code Enforcement Officer of the Year.

Hazelwood code enforcement officer Joe Novy said he got his job through persistence. "I would come up when I had an issue and they began to learn me by name," he said. "One day they said we're hiring, do you want a job?" And he took it. Novy was recently named as the Missouri Association of Code Enforcement's (MACE) 2012 Code Enforcement Officer of the Year. Novy has been working as a code enforcement officer for the city for about 10 years.  Prior to that, he was a part-time Parks and Recreation Division employee.   Hazelwood code administrator Pat McSheehy said Novy is the type of employee you want to have working with you. “When the opportunity arose, I hired Joe as a City code enforcement officer and I have yet to regret it almost 10 …

Police Find Man with Stolen Credit Cards and a Wad of Cash

Hazelwood police arrest Precious Agobe for fraudulent use of a credit device and identity theft on Tuesday in the 7600 block of N. Lindbergh Boulevard.

A St. Louis man is in jail after Hazelwood Police Department officers discovered what was described as a "considerable sum of month and stolen credit cards." Precious Agobe, 28, of the 3200 block of Delor in South St. Louis, was arrested for fraudulent use of a credit device. This happened on Tuesday at about 8:25 a.m. According to a HPD press release a unit responded to the 7600 block of N. Lindbergh Boulevard for a call about a suspicious occupied vehicle. Officers found the cash and cards during a search. The St Louis County Prosecuting Attorney office charged Agobe with identity theft and fraudulent use of a credit device. He has a $100,000 cash only bond. A Florissant man was driving the car and was not arrested in connection with a …

Todd Akin to Speak with North County Republicans Thursday

Akin recently held the helm of U.S. Rep from the 2nd Congressional district and the party's candidate for US senate, but came under fire after a "legitimate rape" comment.

Former Missouri Congressman Todd Akin will be in North County this week speaking at the North St. Louis Republican Club's monthly meeting. He represented Missouri's 2nd Congressional District for more than a decade and was the party's candidate in a run for U.S. Senate against Claire McCaskill last year.
