Be There Now: Big Brothers Big Sisters Pitches In to Support United Way Campaign

Since 1923, United Way has been a steady partner of Big Brothers Big Sisters, helping to ensure funding for the agency for more than 70 years.

Since 1923, United Way has been a steady partner of Big Brothers Big Sisters, helping to ensure funding for the agency for more than 70 years. And now it is Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri’s turn to give back, as agency staff members participate in fund raising events to help the United Way reach the $71 million goal for this year’s annual campaign.

With its network of nearly 200 agencies, the United Way invests $1 million in the community every week to child-care agencies, emergency shelters, food pantries and more. At Big Brothers Big Sisters, this funding enables the agency to Be There for a child who needs a caring adult in their life. Big Brothers Big Sisters promises to Be There for its Littles, and that is exactly what the United Way does for the Big Brothers Big Sisters, as well many other organizations throughout the community, with its generous funding.

“The support of the United Way is tremendous for our agency and so many others” said Becky James Hatter, president and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri. “Every year our staff gets energized around a fun week of activities, all to support the United Way campaign.”

The staff at Big Brothers Big Sisters is pitching in to support the cause with fundraising activities throughout the office to support the United Way campaign. Co-chairs Yasmine King and Christine Frampus, relationship specialists with BBBSEMO, coordinated staff events this week including penny wars, a silent auction, a cook-off, and office-wide Wii tournament! All of the money collected will go to support the United Way campaign.

“Last year the agency had 100 percent staff participation and we are doing our best to repeat that,” King said, a relationship specialist at BBBSEMO.

“The campaign reminds all of us the impact the United Way has on our community,” Frampus said. “Many of the families we serve rely on other United Way agencies besides Big Brothers Big Sisters for support, including utility assistance, health resources, shelters and food pantries. By supporting the United Way, we are also providing an additional layer of support to the families of the Littles we serve.”

Big Brothers Big Sisters is thankful for the support of the United Way and proud to be a member of the United Way.
