$30,000 Raised in Honor of Hazelwood Car Crash Victim

Incarnate Word Academy held a fundraiser bazaar in April on behalf of Katie Campanella, a 11-year-old girl that died in a car accident last October.

A devastating tragedy for the Campanella family, residents of the, was turned into positivity on April 19.

On October 8, 2011 sisters Katherine "Katie" Campanella, 11, and Elizabeth "Beth" Campanella, 16, were involved in a car accident. The crash forever changed the Campanella family, in which and 16-year-old Beth was seriously injured.

Beth, a junior at Incarnate Word Academy, returned to school earlier this year. In support of her and her family, which has a legacy of women that graduated from the private institution, this year's was held in honor of Katie on April 19.

Although Katie attended , she had aspirations to someday follow in her sister's path and become part of the Incarnate Word Academy community.

The event raised $30,000 for the Katie Campanella Visual Arts Scholarship Fund. Photographer Tracy Wallin created a slideshow of the event.

"Katie hoped to one day follow in her mother, Chrissy Koeller Campanella ’88, sister and aunts’ footsteps by attending Incarnate Word Academy," said Katie Eagan, a member of Incarnate Word Academy's alumni association. "In Katie’s eleven years, she touched the lives of many, and it is our goal to endow the Katie Campanella Visual Arts Scholarship Fund."
