Fireworks are Illegal in Hazelwood, Police Warn of Confiscation and Prosecution

This Fourth of July holiday is a dry one so the Hazelwood Police Department is reminding residents to think twice before shooting off fireworks.

Fireworks are prohibited within the as noted in the following two city ordinances: Section 215.100 and Section 215.090.

Keep this in mind throughout the week as you celebrate America's independence during the Fourth of July holiday.

The is realistic in knowing people have already begun and will continue to shoot fireworks from home, but wants people to know the risks they are taking. In a statement sent to Hazelwood Patch, the police department said:

"The Hazelwood Police Department wishes to warn residents to be very careful and extra vigilant this year when using fireworks of any kind to celebrate the Fourth of July. Due to the extreme heat and lack of rain, severe drought conditions exist in our area that can create a significant fire threat. The Hazelwood Police Department extends its best wishes to every Hazelwood citizen for a fun and safe Independence Day celebration."

Those caught violating these ordinances are subject to enforcement action, including the police confiscation of all fireworks and prosecution.
