NY Yankeee Rookie Pitcher David Phelps to get a Thurman Munson Award
The Hazelwood native is set to be acknowledged as a rising star at the 33rd annual Thurman Munson awards dinner.
New York Yankees rookie pitcher David Phelps will receive the second annual "Rising Star'' award at the 33rd annual Thurman Munson awards dinner.
The gala, which remembers late Yankees catcher and captain Thurman Munson, benefits AHRC New York City, an organization that currently serves more than 15,000 people with intellectual & developmental disabilities.
Phelps, a Hazelwood West graduate, made his first starting appearance for the Yankees on May 3, 2012 against the Royals in Kansas City.

Phelps will be in with other athletes recieveing honors inclding Olympic gold-medal gymnast Aly Raisman, Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia, New York Mets' Ike Davis, New York Giants Chris Canty and former New York Knick Greg Anthony.
