La Russa's Leaving the Cardinals

Tony La Russa announces Monday morning that he will retire after 16 seasons with the organization.

After 16 years with the organiztion, Tony La Russa, the third-winningest manager in Major League history is leaving the Cardinals, according to the team's website.

The St. Louis Cardinals held a press conference at 9 a.m. Monday morning to announce La Russa's retirement from the team. La Russa leaves the team just days after in seven games over the Texas Rangers.

The Cardinals and La Russa also won the 2006 World Series. This year was La Russa's 33rd year in Major League Baseball.

"There isn't one (factor) that dominates (my decision)," La Russa said at the press conference. "They all just come together telling you your time is over.

"We went through the season and I felt that this just feels like it's time to end it and I think it's going to be great for the Cardinals to refresh what's going on here."
