Hazelwood Native and Yankee, David Phelps, Faces Albert Pujols

Phelps, who graduated from Hazelwood West High School, pitched five innings of the New York Yankees game against the Angels on Saturday.

David Phelps experienced what could be considered just about any St. Louisans ultimate dream—that is if they have a decent pitch.

As if living out life as a New York Yankee relief pitcher isn't enough for the , Phelps faced one of the St. Louis Cardinals' most infamous exes, Albert Pujols, on Saturday.

According to MLB.com, he stood exactly 60 feet, six inches from Albert Pujols and told the media outlet that he's been "rooting for (Pujols)" as long as he can remember.

Phelps, a 25-year-old rookie, stood tall and of course Pujols made contact but didn't get on base any of the three times Phelps pitched to him. There was a fly to center, a fly to deep left in the sixth, and a liner in the ninth to short with the out at second.

Phelps pitched five innings of the game against the Angels on Saturday. Although NY lost, 7-1, many in the sports world say his performance was solid.
