Alex Pietrangelo "will be a St. Louis Blue," says GM Doug Armstrong

Doug Armstrong, St. Louis Blues' president of hockey operations, said unsigned cornerstone defenseman Alex Pietrangelo will be a St. Louis Blue in the near future.

According to NHL, Armstrong relayed this message the same day his new job title was announced.

"We've kept enough cap space to address any team that thinks that they can poach him from us; that won't happen," Armstrong told NHL

He said Pietrangelo will be a St. Louis Blue whether a few days, weeks or months. He also said the goal is to sign him as quickly as possible. 

Pietrangelo is a restricted free agent. Don Meehan with Newport Sports represents him. He played out his three-year contract last season, and averaged $3.2 million per season.

The  Blues selected him as the fourth pick in the 2008 NHL Draft.
