Whiz Kid: HSD Students Collect 2,000+ Pairs of Shoes for Shoeman Water Projects

Students at Jamestown and Russell elementary schools in the Hazelwood School District each donated more than 1,000 pairs of athletic shoes, boots, sandals and other footwear to Shoeman Water Projects.

Key to Awesomeness: Each school of students want to help those less fortunate. According to a district statement, Jessica Keiser, a third-grade teacher at Jamestown Elementary, led the project at her building where families donated 1,062 pairs.

“I wanted our children to be aware of major problems in other areas around the world, and to learn that if we all do our small part, we can make a huge difference," Jessica said in the statement.

At Russell Elementary, Tracey Shanklin, a pre-kindergarten aide, proposed the project to the student council. Russell families collected 1,001 pairs of shoes.
