UPDATED: Three Taken to Hospital After Hazelwood East Evacuation
Students and construction crews were evacuated Wednesday morning following a strange odor reported.

Hazelwood School District officials have attributed the strange odor that triggered an evacuation of Hazelwood East to a smell from the pool, according to a letter from Principal Jacqueline Kelly.
Testing of the facility by a local environmental company has been completed and entry into the building has been allowed, Kelly wrote.

"The safety of our students and staff is of utmost importance; therefore, we will continue to review and assess the situation," Kelly said. "We will also review our processes and procedures at other swimming pools within the District."
The post also noted those taken to the hospital earlier for evaluation had been released. Also another student was taken to Urgent Care by his parent and later taken home.

Students, faculty and construction crews have been evacuated at Hazelwood East High School due to a strange odor, according to Fox 2 News.
Around 10:40 a.m., the school resource officer reported smelling a cholorine-like substance in the building, according to the St. Louis County Police Department press release. Summer school students and the construction crew present on site were immediately evacuated.
Students and faculty were moved to Kirby Junior High School at 1865 Dunn Rd., according to the release.
Two students and a construction worker were taken to the hospital for further evaluation after reporting respiratory ailments.
A hazardous material team has been sent to the school and is handling the investigation. All should be clear at the school by 2 p.m., according to the release.
The school is under construction for a number of upgrades, including a new library, auxiliary gym, main entrance, office and more, under Proposition H, which is a $120 million, no-tax-rate bond issue approved by voters in 2010.Get more local news delivered straight to your inbox.
