St. Louis Symphony Orchestra Visits Russell Elementary School

Russell Elementary School students participate in the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra's Adopt-a-School program

Russell Elementary School fifth grade students had the opportunity to interact with a duo of St. Louis Symphony Orchestra musicians.

The event is part of the St. Louis Symphony's Adopt-a-School program. This is the third year the school has participated in the program.  

Joy Agre, vocal music teacher at Russell Elementary, applied to join the program, according to the Hazelwood School District, because she wanted to bring to help expand the music experience for students.

“Seeing and hearing the symphony play is such a rich part of a child’s music experience," she said. "It is something that some students may never get to experience again.”

During the 16-week program, musicians come to the school and teach students about the different instruments, history of instruments and music, how the symphony works. Student will also visit Powell Symphony Hall.
