St. Louis Community College Offers Pharmacy Tech Program

If you're looking for a new career path, the community college is offering a new program starting this summer.

For those researching a new career path, St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley will be offering a new certification program this summer.

The community college has begun to offer a pharmacy technician certificate program for those interested in this line of work. The coursework consists of 105 classroom instruction hours and 60 hours for an externshiip, which is arranged through the college.

The certificate program is a partnership effort between St. Louis Community College and MK Education, which is an organization that focuses on preparing students for readiness in the pharmacy technician field.

Diane Sterrett, a manager for Allied Health Continuing Education Program at the college, said that the school identified pharmacy technician certification as a good program to add to health occupations and decided to incorporate it this summer. Sterett said the program runs from June 17-Oct. 23, and she said she hopes to continue to offer the program in the future.

Before a student registers for the program, they must complete a number of steps and prerequisites, including receiving a score of 8.9 on Vocabulary and Comprehension and 7.0 on the Math test of the Tests of Adult Basic Education; family care safety registry worker registration letter.

The cost for the program is $2,100 as well as additional fees and tests. A payment plan can be made available in working with the MK Education staff, Sterett said.
