Slideshow: Hazelwood West High School Band Spring Concert

HWHS Bands performed in their Spring Concert on May 7.

band director Aaron Jackson and his musicians provided an evening of music and memories on Monday when they performed their 7 p.m. concert in the Hazelwood West High School (HWHS) Theatre.

Three of HWHS's student music groups played, including the Jazz Band, the Concert Band and the Symphonic Band.

The Jazz Band kicked off the evening when it performed three tunes, including a version of the Sesame Street theme song. Solos were performed by Tim Stolle on trumpet, Jocelyn Flowers on piano, Adam Kallal on vibes, Minhaz Rashid on alto sax and William Saxton on guitar.

Next up, the Concert Band played four songs, starting with Fidelity March by Karl King.The group also played Fright Night, arranged by James Kazik, Land of the Midnight Sun by Vince Gassi and Sneak Attack! by Richard Saucedo.

The Symphonic Band ended the evening with five songs, beginning with Aces of the Air by Karl King. Other selections included The Witch and the Saint by Steven Reineke, Stevie Wonder in Concert, arranged by Paul Murtha and Kickn' Up Country! by Larry Neeck.

Throughout the evening, Jackson introduced the seniors and offered a brief overview of each one's plans for college, much to the delight of the audience.

Later, two seniors snuck off stage and retrieved a gift they'd purchased for Jackson. They presented it to him and thanked him for all he'd done during their years at West.

After the concert, Jackson and the bands invited the audience to purchase ice cream and meet regarding .
