PTA Reflections Program Honors A Hazelwood West Middle School Student

Wynnie Clemons has accomplished some Hazelwood School District and PTSA firsts with her win.

  • Whiz Kids' Accomplishment: This Hazelwood West Middle School seventh-grade student won second place in the 2010-11 PTA Reflections Program, a national arts recognition program.
  • Whiz Kids' Key to Awesomeness: She created a design of six or seven large leaves that she traced using oil pastels, and then filled them in using watercolors.

Wynnie Clemons, a seventh-grade student at Hazelwood West Middle School, won second place in the 2010-11 PTA Reflections Program, a national arts recognition program. Wynnie won her award in the visual arts category in the sixth- through eighth-grade division. 

Students submitted themed creative works of art through the school’s Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA). The project them was “Together We Can.”

“I created a design of six or seven large leaves that I traced using oil pastels and then I filled them in using watercolors,” Wynnie said in a press release. “It feels great to win second place because I didn’t know I was going to win.”

Wynnie has accomplished some and PTSA firsts but insists her talent in art will remain a hobby. She plans to choose a career in law or the medical field. 

“This is the first time we have had a state winner from Hazelwood West Middle,” Margaret Heffner, PTSA president, said in a press release. “We are very proud of Wynnie.”

Wynnie won at the local level. She and her submission will receive recognition at the Reflections Student Showcase during Missouri PTA’s Leadership Conference, Saturday, April 30, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Independence, MO.
