Photos: Kids Celebrate Black History Month

Hazelwood School District has events planned for the entire month for its students.

Cold Water Elementary School hosted an African American Read-In called Celebrate African American Literature with guest readers in classroom. Students were also treated to a performance by renowned storyteller Bobby Norfolk.

• Feb. 15 - Black History Month Assembly, 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Arrowpoint Elementary School
• Feb. 12 - Black History Program, “Through the eyes of Barack Obama: Influential Events and People during the Life of our President,” 6:00 p.m.
Barrington Elementary School
• Feb. 26 - Black History concert, 7:00 p.m.
Brown Elementary School
• Feb. 12 - Bobby Norfolk sharing stories about African Americans, 6:30 p.m.
• Feb. 22 - African American read-in, featuring special guests, 9:00 a.m.

Cold Water Elementary School
• Feb. 26 - African American/Black History Night Celebration, the event will feature a
pancake fundraiser, hosted by the PTA Council, an African American living museum, and a performance by students focusing on the history of African American culture.
Garrett Elementary School
• Feb. 26 - Fifth graders will host an African American living museum and will also participate in painting face jugs, a form of African art
Grannemann Elementary School
• Feb. 22 - African American read-in, featuring special guests, 9:30 -10:30 a.m.
• Feb. 28 - Black History Program, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Early Childhood Education - East
• Feb. 19 - Black History month event, guest speaker/author/storyteller, Author Rennell Parker,
storyteller, 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Jamestown Elementary School
• Feb. 28 - Black Repertory Theater performance, 2:00 p.m.
Jana Elementary School
• Feb. 21 - Black History Month program, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
• Feb. 26 - African American read-in, featuring special guests, 9:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
Hazelwood Southeast Middle School
• Feb. 16 - Historically Black Colleges/Universities Greek Step Show, 6:00-9:00 p.m.
• Feb. 28 - Black History program
Hazelwood West Middle School
• Feb. 20 - Black History Program, Kunama Mtendaji Words from the Drum
• Feb. 21 - African America read-in, students and guests read out loud from distinguished African America authors throughout the day
• Feb. 27 - Sogo Bo and Diade Bathily, West African puppet theatre, 9:50 a.m.

Hazelwood Central High School
• Feb. 28 - Black History program, 7:00 p.m.
Hazelwood East High School
• Feb. 21 - Black History program, We are the Dream, Continuing the Legacy of Excellence,

• Feb. 27 - HEHS choir will perform at the MLK Celebration at the St. Louis History Museum.
