For those in North County who have children with disabilities, the Special School District of St. Louis County offers another resource for the community April 24.
The inaugural North County Autism-Asperger-PDD Resource Fair will take place Wednesday at Ackerman School in Florissant, 3:30-6 p.m. The purpose of the pprogram will be to expand the annual autism resource fair held in the fall and be a hallmark for the springtime.
“It's extremely important for parents to educate and inform themselves as much as they can by attending workshops, conferences and connecting with other parents. Other parents are undoubtedly the best resource,” Cristina Peltekis, mother to an 18-year-old who has autism, said in a news release. “Knowledge is power.”
During the fair, families and community members will have access to a number of resources and community agencies, such as the Department of Mental Health St. Louis Regional Office, Missouri Families for Effective Autism Treatment (MOFEAT).
There will also be educational opportunities regarding community summer programs, planning for the future and behavioral support.
The fair will be open to the public, and no registration is required. For more information on the event, call 314-989-8108.
